pedders coilovers 1/4 track setting
well instead of trying to spend a lot of time with trial and error..thought i would ask ..who is running coilover and turning good times at 1/4 track...and has coilovers...i have pedders coilovers and would like to know are you tweaking out your coilovers , front and back? if so, where do you feel you are getting best ride in 1/4..i,m hoping pete or rob will give me some insight , i do have Pedders 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Track II kit and prob a little extra...could you give me some ideal settings for front and rear..thanks

What you are looking for is optimal weight transfer at launch and on the 1 /2 up-shift.
1. Get you rear wheels as close to 0 camber as possible. The more square your rear wheels are to the track surface the greater the tire surface. More tire surface = lower ETs. 2. Set your front dampers to 3 off full soft. 3. set your rear dampers to the mid point of 15 off full soft These will serve you well as a starting point and you can dial them in for your specific car and track conditions. |

forgot to ask, many moons ago it was rumored that racing at dragstrip, lowered cars seem to break more axles than at stock height..something to do with angle of shafts on a dropped camaro..any truth to this...anyone clear this up, should i get out my spinner wrench and bring the ass up some? running approx 1 1/2 lowered..thanks again

It is not so much the angle of the axles as compared to the stub that goes in the R end housing.
It has more to do with higher RPM launches, traction, and the Dreaded 'wheel hop'. If the car starts wheel hopping, back off immediately. Is your car Std or Auto? Auto cars are more forgiving on the launch. Std trans are more harsh. Don't launch in upper RPM's and you should be fine. The axles break in one of 2 spots. Either they split the CV joint where the balls are, stretching the carrier for the balls to the breaking point, or they snap the axle where it slims down on the driver's axle. The replacement 1000 HP axles from any of the vendors on the forum address these issues and give you piece of mind. Quite a few people have broken the stock axles. I have heard of only a few breakages (like 3 or 4) with the HP axles. Anything can be abused to the breaking point. Wheel hop is the biggest breakage culprit. |

thanks for the input, it is m6, and did have wheelhop when stock , since all the pedders upgrades , have not wheelhop anymore, but then again i have to much hp @ 654 rwhp to wheelhop without drs..i ordered drs, and am gonna start off with approx 3k rpm and work up..but with drs, i could possible hook and wheelhop..so leaving at dropped height is ok?..no positive results from bumpimg back up to near stock height in rear.?

well i just order my mh racemasters with 15% off for my z06 rims...supercahrged ss ran good with his mh dr,s and so have a couple others hit 8,s and 9,s with there mh dr,s..he feels the hoosiers are costing him on top end due to being so soft...drs roll harder and that can help et..plus 18in dr setup for 800.00, can,t beat it

Changing the angle of the half-shafts will increase the operating temperature at speed, but should not increase the failure rate at the drag strip. Really sticky tires will increase the failure rate at the strip, especially so if you launch at high RPMs.

thanks again everyone, i will try to keep launches within a safe margin i hope, i will set dampeners at petes recomendation and leave at dropped height ..probably not even shift @ 6200, will shift a little early ..to try and prevent breakage..
