3.91 gear install
I am in the middle of installing 3.91 gears and I have a question for the people that have installed the gears themselves. I bought the GM kit and it has a set of friction and steel discs for the posi. I assumed I would open the posi and add a friction and steel to each side. With the pack added to each side, it doesn't look right with the two halves of the posi on each other. I know the Belleville washers have to compress to preload, but there is a big gap to compress. Please reply back with what you did.

Ended up talking with a gm mechanic friend and he said when he installs the gear kit, he replaces the friction and steel on each side if he sees any wear. Remove one friction and steel from each side and replaced with new since the car has 65,000 miles on it. Everything fit after that. Finished the install this morning and have done three heat cycles now. First impression is great. No longer does it require any gas pedal input to take off in first gear. Did some light throttle input between gear changes and car does not feel heavy anymore. Going to dealership to get speedo calibrated tomorrow and will do some full throttle pulls afterwards. I will reply with feedback, but so far I am impressed with this upgrade.

I was thinking of 4.11 on our V6. Have you tried starting in 2nd gear, just curious how bad it lugs.
