E55 AMG

I've been pretty much set on getting a 2012 SS, but just started doing some last minute looking and found out that I can get a 2005/2006 Mercedes E55 AMG with less than 40K miles for the same price. It's faster, nicer interior, but the Camaro looks much better. Convince me to get the for one or the other.

Nothing wrong with an E55. Pulley swap and tune you'll have a pretty quick car. Two completely different cars that aren't usually crossed shopped. I would drive the merc first.
Maintenance on the merc will cost more than a camaro. Plus the W210/211 is a bit dated now.

For one your buying a used Euro car. No telling what those 40,000 miles were like. Two repairing that car (which it will need) is going to cost a fortune compared to working on the Camaro. I would never buy a car soley on its performance. If it is in the shop all the time or I dont have the money to keep it up whats the purpose of owning it???

You should do yourself a favor and pick ANY Euro car and buy it. Get it out of your system once and for all. They are great driving cars and have wonderful luxury and safety features...then comes the issues. Parts are slow to come in...and the parts are horribly expensive. You better have a decent mechanic as well. A bad one will make your life a living hell.

I see you are in California so you will have the bonus of owning a car that has stand alone dealerships. Here in the midwest you have FORD BMW or Mercedes Lincoln...so you are treated like a domestic owner when you drive an expensive car. It ruined the experience for me on my M5. That and $200 + oil changes. Ugh.

Merc's are great cars and have awesome German engineering, but sometimes they are so well over engineered it hurts you in the end when something breaks. Expect to pay double or even triple on any part, compared to what you would on a domestic or Japanese car

The E55's engine responds just as well if not better to mods then a 03-04 Cobra's. Its also similar in design due to both having hand built, forged, DOHC, Supercharged V8's that can be pushed far beyond if factory numbers with a few simple mods. A few stock E55's have gone 11.9 without DR's so you can imagine what a pulley and a set DR's would run. Its a cool sleeper for sure but not really the Camaro's competition.
