I think RX recommended too big of a drill bit. Double the size lets 4x the flow through. Find a bit that fits in the existing holes, then go up 1 or 2 sizes only.

I believe others have done so, but you'll want to confirm to be sure.

Either the forum or Becky/Maureen from Rodgers Chevrolet (also here on the forum) could likely answer that question for you.

RISE RISE RISE necrothread!

Sorry to raise an old thread from the grave, but I'm a n00b (FNG) so it's OK

I have a catch can mounted on the PCV line and it has a drain valve on the bottom. When the engine is running, I can open the valve and hear/feel the vacuum. this indicates that the PCV barb is not drained right? If i open the sucker up and there's no sucky-sucky, I most likely have a clogged PCV barb?

Rather than remove the barb to inspect it, this would be a more convenient way to test it in the future if I'm on target.

The only problem with that method is, it could be partially blocky, blocky when you checky, checky for sucky, sucky and could become completely blocky, blocky between checky, checkies. A pair of pliers, a twist and a tug are good insurance that the sucky, sucky keeps on keepin' on. Your way is like checking the oil level by looking at the four gauge pack.

Your checking method doesn't reveal anything about the PCV "valve" (which is really more of a restrictor than a valve). It could be completely plugged, and if you open the drain port on your catch can, you'd still hear/feel vacuum. The vacuum is generated at the intake manifold, pulling air through the catch can, which draws air through the PCV valve out of the crankcase.

If the PCV valve was plugged, vacuum would remain in the system on the catch can side of the valve; there would simply be no flow...UNTIL you opened the catch can drain, creating a new pathway for air to flow.

To put it in your terms, there will be sucky-sucky at the catch can drain even if the PCV valve is plugged, because the sucky-sucky is being generated not from the PCV valve side of the can, but from the IM side of the can.
