Z/28 build numbers: can someone confirm 3K total?

From my dealer: "They are building 500 in 2014 and 2500 in 2015. We did not get any for the 2014 model year. We only got 2 for the 2015 model year."

I think that will be confirmed . . . only when the 2015 production line shuts down.

My dealer got ZERO 2014 and two for 2015. Told me the same basic #'s, less than 500 in 2014 and about 2500 in 2015. Who knows. Evidently it is not part of the main production line system as it would not make much sense to create a production line for such a small run for only two years. Taking a non-traditional manufacturing approach would also contribute to the lower volume and higher cost.

That's sounds about right, I have a order in with allocation for a 2014. Could of got a 15 but would have to wait till fall to get it around October. The 14 should come in spring time.

My local dealer's GM called me last week and said he was informed: 500 units for 2014 and 1500 units for 2015 and that's it for the 5th gen Z/28 run. So who knows exactly... we'll see. My dealer got 1 allocation for 2014 and 3 allocations for 2015. I have allocation spot #2 there but it's for a 2015 MY Z/28 since the #1 allocation is already spoken for... that buyer wants a 2014 one. I'm still undecided since I'm also allocated for a 2015 C7 Z06. Tough decisions...

The letter to dealers from GM says this.

Quote:
The Camaro Z/28 is a road racer first, and street machine second. It will utilize a wide range of state-of-the-art exterior performance modifications and extreme mass saving measures versus other current Camaro production models. As such, production of the Camaro Z/28 will be limited over the next two model years (approximately 2500 to 3000 units).
That's 2500-3000 combined for 2014 and 2015. They have not broken it down to a specific number for each year but 2014 will certainly be the lower number since we're less than 6 months from start of production on the 2015s.

...Fitz was interviewed live on TV at Barrett-Jackson, and when asked about how many Z/28's will be made...he replied..."about 3,000"

These numbers are for real?

Most of us will never even see one, much less drive one?

I have come across the 500 for '14 a few places and reasons so that the Z/28 can be raced legally.

For '15 i have seen 1500 to 2500. I think 1500 is the plan but if demand is there i dont see why GM wouldn't sell them.

I mean they did say last year "if you wanted one, you could buy one"

In Canada, I was told that there are only a total of 40, although I do not know

how accurate that is. In Calgary, where I live, I do know that only 4 were

allocated, and I managed to get one. VIN 00063 as its was just finished.

So there will certainly be a limited number to view for 2014.

Cheers

If I were to secure an allocation for a 2015. Can I order it when I want to , or is it done by month? I am thinking of getting one but want to wait until the end of the yr to order for a 2015 spring delivery.

Technically you personally can't secure an allocation. The dealer has to "get an allocation" from GM. If the dealer you want to use has an allocation and will hold it for you with a deposit or a personal guarentee then go for it.

I was wondering exactly how it worked with the Z28. I didn't know if the dealers were givin ( x ) amount of Z28's for the model yr. and they could order them when they wanted.
