Best spots for the GoPro?
Heading out for a Lapping Day next week, and just wondering where folks are putting their GoPro's for optimum audio and sound?
I want to get footage of the track from the "car's" perspective, as well as footage of me wheeling it. Also, what mounts are everyone using? Is the Suction Cup good? All help and insight is greatly appreciated! |

Here's another angle if you cant do it from inside, but you can also suction it to the inside of the wind shield.

Nice. I like the shot from the RH side down low!

I'll usually put it on the drivers side rear window. Then you can see driver inputs and the track.

Just one of the GoPro-supplied sticky mounts, plus a separate tether whose dash attachment is also "permanent". They've been in place for a little over two years now, and I've almost never noticed them unless I'm either mounting or de-mounting the GoPro itself.
Not shown is the shimming needed to keep the thing from vibrating, which rattles enough to get picked up in the sound track. The GoPro skeleton back does allow enough exhaust sound to be heard even with a 100% stock exhaust system. Shown with a sample screenshot from a recent track day video (approaching T5 at NJMP/Lightning). The clock in the lower right corner is my computer's time of day for the screenshot and isn't part of the video. Norm Last edited by Norm Peterson; 05-28-2014 at 07:38 AM. |

Thanks Norm.
I tried it stuck to the inside of my windshield, but thought it "saw" too much dash. A mount will probably eliminate that. Quote:

I usually do top of windshield and top of trunk or bottom of rear window. Here's some video's I took this past weekend at MSR Houston..

What are you using to buffet the wind noise with it up there?

I try to mount mine in a different place for every run, then do a split video. Here is a video with it mounted behind the wheel under the Camaro lettering and on the windshield.

I mounted to my front bumper in front of the grill (the lip that the grill and headlights are sunk into). Bonus you can safety wire to the grill if you're paranoid. Video with the view:

I mount mine to the windshield and then use the settings in the GoPro so the camera will record the video upside down. I've never been happy with the GoPro audio so I've added an external mic that records in stereo.
Here is the Mic http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica...reo+Microphone
