As a cop in Florida I have stopped vehicles for the same reason when

1- you know the driver has a suspended dl

2- u think they just bought or sold drugs or they a casing a neighborhood

3- to f*ck with them

4- or they drive a camaro you think was modified because I own a ss1 and I just wanted to see the mods ( just kidding about this one )

Great comment after the statute was posted....

-------------------------------

as for the original poster...It is cheese....super cheese....the guy was not a dick or he would've actually wrote the citation for a violation that exists.

As defined...

316.271 Horns and warning devices.

(3) The driver of a motor vehicle shall, when reasonably necessary to ensure safe operation, give audible warning with his or her horn, but shall not otherwise use such horn when upon a highway.

-----------------------------

The way this was interrupted to me during my traffic enforcement training (most of us receive upon hire) is that the horn is utilized to WARN drivers of an already occupied lane and deter a collision. Not to "wake up" the guy in front of you. Also note this class was given to me by an attorney...not a cop

Again....I am not saying that the statute is not cheese. It is cheese...In 5 years I have never issued a citation for it..the only time I stopped for it was an idiot going around a strip mall with a train horn. THAT is what the statute was more specifically established for in an effort to prevent those absurd tones.

The rest of you just take a deep breath and think twice before you make a comment such as "he must be a dick and making it up" what may be permitted in your state may not be anywhere else. I bet if you looked into a statute book hard enough, you WOULD find a similar statute otherwise some chuckle head could drive his sled down the road laying on the horn.....anyone ever stop to think the guy had JUSTIFIED, probable cause to see your camaro? Lie to me and tell me you wouldn't do the same hahaha (and no, I have not yet stopped a 5th gen)

What laws do you have here in Kansas? I've been here the past 3 days and as I can tell, there's no speed limit (was passed going 70 in a 65, cop passed by without skipping a beat, he had to be going 85), no gun laws (fired an MP-5, fully auto after work), and no concern for underage drinking (my bartender was 19)...I freaking love it here!

Sitting there like that is a great way to get rear-ended.

Unmitigated bad seed LEO with an atitude. Sorry to the good LEO's out there, but this kind of junk gives the good guys a bad name.
Good argument and I see where you are going with it...however, (if I recall correctly) the OP stated through traffic had a solid green, but the turn arrows were not illuminated. Meaning no one in that turn lane had the right of way. The driver located directly in front of him can sit there all day if they choose until they receive the green left arrow. Obviously we all know you are permitted to conduct the left turn as traffic clears when that driver feels its safe to do so....period. Now you are correct in that they may be stopped for obstructing traffic if they fail to move once that arrow is illuminated....until then...it is his choice

I LOVE how you put 3 in there, I'm sure a lot of people here like to know an officer of the law does things to f*ck with people...

look in the cops defense.........people that are aggressive drivers do that and ones that are drinking get impatient.........he was more than likely just makin sure you were not drinking and to let you know that aggressive driving won't be tolerated. give the guy a break........he's just doing what we pay them for.....and no i'm not a cop.

I work the tower shops car show on a steady basis and when alot of the cars start leaving they start getting on the airhorns for no reason and that's when I stop them so I could send them a message and f*ck with them. But in 20 years in law enforcement I have never issued that ticket to anyone but I have used it to make car stops.

I lived in South Florida (Fort Lauderdale/Pompano Beach are)about 15 years ago and could not get a break. There are cops all over down there. I had a 240Z w/a small block Chevy in it and was pulled over by a State Trooper just to ask what kind of motor I had in it. That was kind of cool though. He was betting with his partner what I had in it. Good luck with all those S. Florida cops

Mark him off as an idiot. Nothing illegal about waking someone up in a dangerous situation.
