Your tuning experience

Who tuned your car, how many times did it take to get it right and how reliable is it for everyday driving? Looking at either 10% or 18%lower pulley with headers and injectors. I drive my car less than 100 miles a week, but would like to be able to hop in it and drive 2000 miles on a road trip if needed. Current mods is only a rotofab at this point in time.

Matt Sorian of Florida Speed and Power goes to Texas occasionally. He has also tuned my C6 remotely via me sending him data logs since I already have HP Tuners. If you have an auto it is very important you get somebody that knows what they are doing with the trans tune.

Just doing pulleys, headers, injectors, and tune won't change your driveability at all. Changing your cam is where things could be impacted. Even then there are cam choices that will drive like stock.

I had mine tuned at PCMofNC. I only have headers, off-road pipes, corsa cat back and a rotofab but it picked up 55 hp on that alone. To me, it drives maybe better than stock but then again it was done at 500 miles so not a lot of driving was done as stock. Like said above, the only thing that will affect drivability would be a really aggressive cam which in my opinion, isn't needed. I suppose a really shitty tune done by someone who doesn't know what they're doing would affect drivability but you have at least a $50K car so I hope you don't plan on letting just anyone tune it. There's a plethora of reputable shops that are more than capable of making your dreams come true.

Would the 18% be too much for long road trips?

As they have said the cam is what really changes drivability. That and the tune if done incorrectly. All the pulleys do is spin the supercharger faster to give you more air. This should not have any effect on how comfortable you are during long road trips.

Guess I should have asked if the heat generated using the 18% would be too much for long road trips.

Ahh my mistake. It'll definitely create more heat but unless your flooring it the entire trip I think you should be fine. But dropping in an aftermarket heat exchanger or even just a coolant reservoir wouldn't hurt. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable about the heat will chime in.

The extra heat is only generated at wide open throttle and when you redline it.

Corvette Camaro GTO CTS Tuner in Tampa Orlando Bradenton

Although I havent seen a failure with a vehicle with bolt ons modifications, Im sure it depends on your calibrator. If your modifications include power adders such as internal modifications or forced induction, spend the extra money up front with proven parts.

Stick with someone within a couple hours of you. This way if your vehicle has problems, its not another day off from work to have the vehicle recalibrated or wait a couple months.

What training does your calibrator have? Did they learn along the way or have they been trained in calibration?

I like showing my clients the scan of their vehicle which is more important to me than their dyno sheet. Dyno numbers are just numbers of my final product. My scanner tells me if im hitting my calibration numbers, and not advertising dyno numbers.

Go to car shows and talk to people. Ask them how their car drives in a parking lot at low speeds or how their shifts feel. Was their transmission shifts taylored to their driving. Its better than internet hype.

Best of luck,
Phil

With a 18% lower you should do just fine.

I have an 18% lower and a 2:55 upper, getting 14 lbs of boost. My car has cam, headers etc and I just got back from a 3300 mile road trip. Also have an auto with a 2800 stall torque convertor. No issues whatsoever on my trip. Built and tuned by Matt Sorian at FSP.
