Exhaust rusting !!!

I have a rs/ss with 2,500 miles and the whole exhaust system is rusting. Is this normal or should i take it to the dealer? (never been taken out in snow)

Take it into the dealer and see what they say. Make sure to point out the bumper-to-bumper warranty and the corrosion warranty.

Wild guess... the Stock exhuast, while Stainless Steel is probably only like 409, mild stainless, and may show some surface rust... not going to rust through, but not going to stay shiny either...

Little more info on 409 stainless steel: (from http://www.azom.com/details.asp?articleID=969)

Background

409 is a titanium stabilised ferritic stainless steel. Although regarded as a general-purpose chromium stainless steel the primary application for Grade 409 is automotive exhaust systems. Its applications are those where appearance is a secondary consideration to mechanical properties and corrosion resistance and where some weldability is required.

Corrosion Resistance

Grade 409 resists atmospheric and exhaust gas corrosion. A light surface rust will form in most atmospheres; this rust retards further corrosion but makes the surface undesirable for decorative applications.

Applications

Typical applications include:

· Automotive exhaust systems
· Catalytic converters
· Mufflers

Are you sure the factory exhaust is SS? Not just tips?

ifyou paintes the mufflers and what you can see from the rear with a heat paint like bbq pit paint or something would that at least keep you from seeing surface rust all over the mufflers?

Yes. Most auto part stores sell "header paint" that is rated up to 1200 -1400F. Way hotter than your mufflers will get.
