Drove an 07 Monte Carlo SS and...........
Should be Monte Carlo, not Impala....
I loved it. It was fully loaded, leather, moonroof, etc, etc, 52k miles. Exterior: It is a really sporty looking car. The SS Body kit and 18 inch wheels are really sharp. The car may be a bit too Vanilla for some, especially in silver as this one is, but me, I like a little Vanilla LOL. Interior: You can tell it is not one of GMs newer interiors, but I found nothing really wrong with it. Yes, there was hard plastic here and there, but the dash top and all the major touch points seemed to be covered in soft touch materials. The seats were extremely comfortable and there was plenty of room. Engine/trnsmission: 5.3 LS4, what else is there to say? It's no LS3, but had plenty of pep and had no trouble pulling you back in the seat and giving a little surprising tire spin. The transmission is of course the old 4 speed, but it works well, and downshifts were fleeter than some GM 6 speed autos I have driven. That said, I would love to experience this little motor with a newer, and well tuned, 6 speed auto. Ride/Handling: It is definitely more aimed towards a luxury ride than handling prowess. It simply soaks up all bumps, but rolls some in corners. The amazing thing was the total absence of torque when giving it the spurs. It would actually turn which is a total reversal of my old GTP which would pull you every which way, or just not turn at all, despite having the steering wheel turned. Overall: It is what it is, a big, roomy, comfy muscle coupe. It may bet FWD but GM has done a great job making it NOT feel like it. I really liked it; in fact I am waiting for a callback on it from the dealer. It kind of reminded me of the Challenger, as it is a car I would simply drive all day going cross country. Here is a link to the actual car from the Dealers website http://www.deskinsmotors.com/used/Ch...04bf99ed7b.htm Last edited by Stew; 06-28-2011 at 08:20 AM. |

Ummmm that's a Monte Carlo. Even still the coupe helps over the Impala body style, even if it is a little Dale Jr. inspired.

LS4 powered W-bodies blow through transmissions like crazy.
Doesn't help that the 2012 Impala with the LFX puts out just about the same amount of power.

never had any issues with my tranny.... bought the car new in 2006 and it now has 49k miles....it has seen strip duty, long road trips, it has simply been one of the best cars I have owned... I always said if GM would have made this rear wheel drive with a LS2 in it, what a hotrod it could have been...

Thought the 00 a GF had was nice in dark blue, did awesome in the crazy winters here.
course women can"t drive but she could barrel through snow banks crossing roads ,ike a loon and it didnt skip a beat or get all out of shape. though not very fast at highway speed. I had no trouble pulling away with my Buick 350 wagon [thopugh since been retooled for street, I use to shock allot if folks on 70+ take off runs.] |

The LS4's are pretty decent, but I still think they made a mistake dumping the 3800 for it. Would have been better to just keep producing for another 2 years....
Still, it's a good overall vehicle. The Monte's are decent in terms of space and fuel efficiency. I miss my GTP.... If they had made the Monte in RWD, it would still be being produced at this moment. The FWD aspect really doomed it once the rest of the muscle cars started becoming more powerful.

Has anyone seen an LS4 GXP lately? That was a rare gem.
