Hmmm my ZL1 dilemma

Ok, So back in July I had secured an allocation form a dealer stating I was guaranteed msrp.
Since then the dealer has been bought out and the new owner said nope...$5000 over msrp. Not good.
A fellow C5er hooked me up with a dealer that was only asking msrp but there allocations have been committed. This dealer stated that they will be receiving more allocations due to some Midwest dealers have declined them due to heavey truck sales. Ok $$$ down and order in.
So now I tell the other dealer that I want my deposit back, sure no problem, what can we do to change your mind they asked .....ummm that obvious...MSRP. Ok long story short they came down to 2500 over.

So my dilemma is, should I wait for the MSRP dealer to get an allocation?
( that is if they even will for 2012 )
OR
Spend the 2500 for a sure deal and allocated ZL1?

Thanks for your thoughts

For me it's MSRP or nothing. Anything above is greedy. Walk, if the sale means something to them they'll honor their promise if not, just think to yourself is this the type of dealer I want to deal with anyways?

Personally, I would go ahead with the CA dealer if you can secure at least 10 free oil changes, and "dealer cost" on some LPO add-ons or other parts you will likely buy from them. Basically, try to recoup the $2500 mark up as much as possible. Consider the after-purchase visits into account as well. It is not unusual that dealers are easier to work with on warranty and mod stuff and more willing to help out when you purchased your car from them. Consider the ease of the purchase transaction as well compared to buying from outta state. $2500 seems a lot but ultimately, if you gotta have it, you gotta have it and it makes you happy and can afford the mark-up, no biggie. When I ordered my 2010 Camaro in 2009, being in SoCal and wanted it asap, I paid the mark-up but got 10 free oil changes (though I paid for the 1st one at a different dealer), and other service and stuff to ease the pain a little.
I am in the same dilemna as you....$2500 mark up or wait in long waiting list. I decided to wait it out a bit and let the first waves of ownerships find out the bugs and problems on the first year production 5th Gen ZL1s. My 600rwhp SS will stay with me awhile yet.

Personally, I don't think any dealers are going to sell ZL1's at MSRP. For every consumer who won't buy above MSRP there are 100 others that will, the dealers know that and considering "greed" is mankinds middle name; No dealer is going to give anyone a fair shake out of the goodness of there slimey hearts. Regardless what you may or may not have in writing don't believe the BS. You and 100 others have the same piece of paper not worth the paper it's printed on. They'll just tell you they made a mistake and it was allocated to someone else (the hightest bidder).

If you really want it, then $2500 over MSRP isn't bad at all and I'd say a very fair increase (do up the "formal" sales agreement, sign it and wait for it to be delivered), once you have the sales agreement you'll have recourse, at this point you most likely just have some kind of promisory note that doesn't mean anything.

If you listen to all the rhetoric, on this thread and don't lock one in now you may not get one in the future.

Here in Canada the expectation is the ZL1 will be 25% more than US MSRP, and then the dealer will add another 25-30%, and some sucker will still buy it. Happens here all the time with Corvettes (especially Z06 or ZR1), and then you see them on eBay a few years later for less than 50% of what they were purchased for because their sold for their current value which is original MSRP minus depreciation, not for what was paid for them minus depreciation.

There are still dealers selling at MSRP that have allocations.

Find them.

Internet + telephone. Call the biggest dealer from every decent sized city in an expanding radius around your location until you find one, or maybe you'll get lucky & someone here will know of one & shoot you a message.

Edit: Worst case scenario, you find one but can't get it courtesy delivered, it costs you a grand to have it delivered.

Explain it to them that way, and offer them $1000.00 over and not a penny more. See if they bite. That means you have to be willing to walk away if they don't go for it though. Tough spot. Remind them again about the deal you had and how it would reflect positively on them if they honored that deal, albeit slightly renegotiated in their favor. End with, "I'd like to be your customer... it's up to you."

Lots of dealers selling for MSRP. Personally I wouldn't buy any car for any reason for above MSRP. To me its as bad as theft.

Many people on this forum have been guaranteed msrp by dealers..
You have very little chance of receiving a zl1 at msrp if you wait for dealers to have them on hand.

Based on your Canadian price of random percentages... You're saying a zl1 in Canada will be 80k+? Thats without options....

I mean come on guys...what happened to accidently mixing the truth in with our posts?

Your in california right?
Most are paying over msrp that live in the western states....
See if you can get them down anymore...while you are trying to get them down on the over MSRP, keep shopping.
If you cannot find one out of state, like most have for MSRP it might be your only option for a YM 12. Anyone that will take $2,500 will surely take $1,950.
See what I am saying?
Good luck. Reach out to other members about maybe securing one in another state for MSRP.
