Stock Transmission Power Limits
Hey guys, I tried googling on the forum but couldn't find anything at first glance.
This winter I'll be throwing a magnuson 2650 on the zl1 a10, probably new cam job since this current one was f***ed up. My goals are 850whp which my new guys think is very doable. What power level should I think about building the trans? Just trying to get budgets in order. Thanks in advance. |

The a10 will take anything you can throw at it. Good thing because there isnt any aftermarket or built version of it anyway, so you are completely stuck.
The only thing is you will need the TCM unlocked to make changes to it, and you will need to update the tq management values or the TCM will close the throttle on you when you start making power. |

A10 will handle about 1k whp with proper tuning. 850whp shouldn't be a issue.

what about with the manuals? I don't plan to get nuts with this car, but then again I havent planned that with any previous cars but they always end up seeing tons of mods LOL

If the A10 can handle that much power, what’s the reason for all the TM on the stock tune that limits throttle position in 1st and 3rd? Even at stock power levels it’s restrictive. Is it to preserve the transmission or help with traction?

Traction and to help keep the average enthusiast out of the ditch. Turn all the TM off on a street tire and there would be a lot more ZL1's in the bone yard.

lol so true. When I bought my new 2000 Mustang GT at age 19, I didnt get the traction control, which was optional. I did some basic mods which probably put the car around 300hp. I proceeded to crash it twice and had several other close calls. If you give the average person 650hp and no nannies, they're going to be in a world of hurt.

No idea. I bet it can but the published figures may be more conservative. I assume GM dials in a bunch of torque management to prevent warranty claims as well.
