Do you think people confuse 1LE and ZL1 on the street?

Driving my new 1LE home from the dealer the other day, I had an EVO X GSR come flying up on me out of nowhere. He was cutting between cars aggressively just to get next to me. Once he was next to me and had a clear lane, he stopped, looked at my car for a moment or two and then backed off RAPIDLY. I thought maybe it was a fluke and the guy simply second guessed if he wanted a piece, but a similar thing happened this morning while I was out cruising on a wide open 3 lane stretch, but a modified WRX wagon this time.

I honestly could have cared less to race the guy on the street, especially being a new car and all, but I did get a chuckle. Then I started wondering, maybe the wheels, hood, exhaust, etc. might be throwing off people who aren't overly keen on the details of these vehicles? Does this happen to other 1LE owners out there?

Coming from those cars myself literally, I used to have no hesitation at all lining up on a Camaro SS, so it had me wondering if they're thinking I've got a 580HP monster that they don't want a piece of? I know the 1LE is not common and is very distinct looking so I'm wondering if this should be chocked up to ignorance? Anyway, just thought it was kinda funny and wondering if anyone else has had similar happen?

Get used to it with Ricer 2.0's (that is who I refer to when a guy has a stockish STI, WRX, etc, slaps on some stickers and thinks they have 500bhp). A guy with a properly built one would not shy away from ya..

Most ricer and ricer 2.0's would not no a difference between any of the Camaro trims. They will buzz around you constantly...until you don't take the bait.

I have had them tell me how nice my mustang or vette is when I am in the Camaro, for example..

The average person doesn't know the difference between a base model V6 Camaro and a ZL1 costing $30K more. They don't have a clue.

To most people - a Camaro is a Camaro and they don't know or care about the differences between models (or have a clue how much the car cost or its HP or performance numbers).

Now most serious performance enthusiasts will know the difference.

Happened to me today with a STi. Sounded like crap too. I always liked WRXs because they sound good despite being a 4 cyl, but this one was ruined.

Exact same thing happened to me at a gas station. It is interesting that someone knows of the ZL1, but can't identify one.

Maybe after seeing the 1LE badges instead of ZL1 badges they figured it wasn't worth wasting their gas.

Fairfax? Used to live in Reston years ago.

But, no, I was never schooled by any SS in my EVO IX, but then again, my EVO wasn't stock.

I get that stuff every now and again. Admittedly my car looks less and less like a 1LE with every mod.

I'm almost 41 with a wife and kid. I don't worry about that kind of thing any more. If they want to street race go find someone else.

Got it! I was just being silly. I've got those cars pulling beside me all the time. When I don't have my boy with me, I school them!
