were the camaro's really weaned out when it came to power?

I've heard from a friend of mine that the factories have really weaned out the engines performance for V8's and V6's. he told me about a guy getting his Camaro tuned and let loose an extra 40 horses in a V6! Is there any possible truth behind this?

The aftermarket doesn't have to follow many of the rules and regs that auto manufacturer's do. For instance...the LS7 is an EASY 550+hp powerplant...but it wouldn't pass emissions standards at those power levels. And they all have to pass extreme testing to be covered under the warranty. The aftermarket doesn't care about factory warranties or federal emissions.

So I guess it's possible.

EDIT: Then again - The manual Camaro's LS3 has 426hp v the Corvette's 430...so maybe not...

well if the tune would release some unknown emission regulations, therefor freeing up an extra hp or two, but I'm not sure about 40. I'm thinking about getting my V6 tuned as well, after I buy a few mods you know the basic exhaust, intake, headers.
