To all those saying this is not ABM...you must not own one...any true ABM owner can see that this is most definitely one of the chosen few.

I remember seeing an ABM ZL1 mule a while back...lord knows how many ABM ZL1 mules they made that we just didn't see. It's not like they made a few thousand of them, they just made a few while it was still in production. GM has been building ZL1's for years for testing, it's perfectly reasonable that one (without a proper VIN most likely) stayed in circulation.

Call it something other than ABM if you like...even though it's a one off car painted just for the race, it is most definitely an ABM based color.

I agree... regardless of what Mr. Settlemire or any other "inside sources" say, I believe this is a factory painted ABM car, and would bet its the mule car we've seen before...Maybe they shot another coat of clear with some pearl in it or something so they could say it's "not ABM", but in all honesty it looks like box stock ABM to me, and a pace car would be a great way to get a former test mule ZL1 into use now that testing is over. Sure GM will deny it is a color they discontinued, but I'll still bet its a factory sprayed ABM car.

I would be inclined to agree with Joey...

I mean remember the first Ashen Grey Metallic was really a red car resprayed (remember the door jams being red and anywhere else that wasnt a surface panel..)

At any rate I cant imagine GM pulling some random color out of their rear for this car. Whats the point? Its ABM - either they resprayed a ZL1 that was sitting around, perhaps a mule, OR they already had a ABM ZL1 made and now it has a nice home as a pace car since they cannot market or sell it.

Just because they discontinue a color doesnt mean they used up every last drop before they ended it.

I saw this car during the race and really liked the color, but ABM never came to mind. This car went from blue in the sun to blue/purple in the shade. To me ABM always looks blue/green in the sun and blue in the shade.

As a point of clarification the ZL1 you speak of that was originally red. The one that was on display that was auctioned off. That was not Ashen Gray it was Carbon Flash Metallic. It was a temporary sprayed on material similar to plasticoat. It would be awesome
To have. CFM ZL1 with a RJT or Crystal red? Interior like that one was.

Just watched the Belle Island race on my dvr. The ZL1 was looking good. Got to see it on the track several times. Even had a long clip with a rear cam where you could see the trunk/spoiler and hear the exhaust of the ZL1 with nothing but prototype cars stacked up behind it for a restart. Chevy finished 1-2 in prototype and 1-3 in GT.

That said, I LOVE this color!! It's what I wanted when I ordered my ABM. I just settled on ABM cause it was as close as I was gonna get at the time. If this new blue is offered, I'd order one and sell my ABM in a heartbeat. I want some of the new features: i.e. HUD, backup camera, new stereo, but I want a blue like ABM before I'd order.

Agreed. If this is not ABM and it's a test to get a reaction to the color, this might be the color offering for the next MY. I would like to see it in person and if it is the color that I think it is, it would become my primary choice if it is made available.

I had a bright blue metallic iroc. It was so bright in the sun you could barely look at it.mthis color looks like the IBM color from the gto.

It seems as though it is slightly less metallic and has less of a Green pearl hue to it.
Both are beautiful as is the Jet Stream Blue.

BTW, from what I had read they got rid of the ABM because it was not water based so if they did bring it back it would probably not be 100% the same.

I believe fbodfather said they got rid of it because it was the least selling color. It was almost IBM at the time, but IBM had a couple thousand more sold than ABM.
