Would V8 Be Worth It?

I have a v6 rjt 2lt, with 6000 miles on it. I've put some money into it not much but, I've been thinking about a V8. I have only had my car for 8 months now and have no complaints at all. I just like the thought of the extra power and the sound. Would it be worth starting all over again? I have not drove a V8 powered camaro. If someone has driven both please let me know the big difference between them, mpg maintenance, etc. It would be a big help to me. Thanks.

Yeeesh. I LOVE my V8, and wouldn't swap it for any V6 you could throw at me, but you're going to take quite a loss on your LT...... Financially it wouldn't seem a wise move.

I can tell you the SS is quick. Decisively faster than the LT, and the acceleration is tons more authoritative. In your shoes, I would test drive an SS and see if you fall head-over-heels. If not, then probably best to stick with your sixer.

unless your V6 is completely paid off and/or you have extra money to burn, you might have to wait on it. don't torture yourself with a V8 test drive, etc. the negative equity on the V6 wouldn't be worth it to swap.

all financing aside, here is my opinion. i almost bought a V6 and even ordered it. I test drove it many times and it is quick and gets better gas mileage than the V8 which was an incentive. However, i began to wonder why a was buying a muscle car without the muscle so I went back and tested the V8 manual LS3. Everything was in the torque. The lift off the line in the V8, peel outs even in upper gears and the growl of the exhaust was the whole reason of buying the car. Its the whole reason the camaro has earned its reputation. The V6, although fast in top speed, feels like its being cautious off the line and acceleration compared to the acceleration of the V8. One thing to consider is the V6 gets 29mpg highway compared to the V8's 24mpg and premium fuel. However, they get about the same mpg in the city. Also, In my past experience the V6 camaros and mustangs always seemed to have more maintenance issues. I don't know if they just spend more time perfecting the V8 engines or what but thats what i've seen with the 3 V6 cars i've owned compared to my friends V8's. Needless to say i changed my order and got the V8, never going back to a V6. IMO, keep the V6 if you just want a fast, good looking car, get the V8 if you want to enjoy driving it and intend to use its power. No point in a V8 if you're gonna drive it like a wussy.

P.S. don't let us decide, go drive one for yourself.

You can be assured that your v6 is quality equipment and totally cool. When you take out your date on Saturday night they are going to be thinking that you have good taste. You should not feel like you are missing out on something. A car is a vehicle and you have a damn good vehicle.

On the other hand, you are going to replace this car someday and why not with another Camaro?

Unless youre going to the drag strip keep the V6. Its a great car as is. If you want the extra bang u gotta pay for it. So if finanaces are not an issue, get the V8. Otherwise, the V6 has plenty of power and is a lot of fun!

Thumbs up

All good advice. Always had V8 Chevy and GMC pickups but never a camaro. This is my first one, it won't be my last! Like I said I have no complaints about the car what so ever. Just was wondering if the extra pop of the V8 was worth the money. I might have to wait until the child support payments stop next year. lol.

If you can afford it, yes. If not, just keep what you have honestly.
