Any dexos1 oil at 5W-30 is perfectly fine AND doesn't void your warranty on the LT1 motor unless you're tracking it.

I've been reading threads/posts on oils here for 2 years and this is the first time I recall one on Driven oils, and it might be first on disregarding dexos oils.

This needs to stop.

The dexos1 spec has been replaced by the dexos2 in the LT1 and LT4.

Owners manuals since 2019 have had dexos2 as the required oil for the LT1/4.

There is a TSB for the oil change. If your dealer is any good, when you take your LT1/LT4 in for service, they even change the cap to say Mobil1 dexos2 0w-40.

has anyone ever intentionally run the wrong oil and recorded the difference after say 20, or 50K miles?

I truly in my heart don't think it makes one bit of difference what oil you run as long as you change it and use the right amount. maybe I have just never kept a car for enough miles for it to matter. maybe my engines will last 100k instead of 200k. either way, I have always run whatever appealed to me at the time and my cars have always run great.

it just seems like a huge waste of time and energy, fussing over oil.

And for those of us who use our cars for the intended purpose, there's no point voiding a warranty for a blown engine because GM sampled the oil residue and found something not on the dexos 2 list.

You know its funny because dexos 2 spec is really just a low SAPS oil meaning its good for diesel particulate filters. It's really just a name GM gave it, its nothing special.

I would rather have better protection and simply just change my oil more often. I tend to use 5w40 in my car, either mid saps or full saps.

Few good oils:

Amsoil 5w40 Euro Formula - Dexos 2 Spec Mid Saps
Motul 8100 X-clean/x-clean gen 2 Mid Saps Dexos 2

Driven DI 0w40 - Full saps. (not much info on this oil)

Right now my go to oil is the amsoil 5w40, seems to have less consumption and less viscosity breakdown then others Ive used.

Mobil 0w40, never cared for it. Oil pressure was always lower, didn't seem to last long.

LMAO - READ YOUR MANUAL!

You could not be more wrong. Yes, the DEFAULT fill on the LT1 motors from the factory is dexos2, but the manual very clearly states that dexos1 5W-30 is acceptable for street use.
