Hurst Shifter Bushing Upgrade
I am contemplating installing these upgraded bushings to correct some of the slop in the Hurst shifter in my 2011 SS. The shifter was installed by the previous owner and has 50,000 miles on it.
Has anyone done the upgrade? Is it worth it? Also, any tips and tricks to simplify the install? Goal is to be successful and drive it again. |

Only hard part is getting lower dust boot back on under the car. Hopefully you can change the bushing with out complete removal

I am glad to hear some good feedback on the bushing kit. I am hoping - planning on installing while the shifter is still in the car. I appreciate the feedback on the fact that the boot is the hard part.
My intent is to put the car on ramps and give it a go one night this week. I just didn't want to get in over my head and end up with a problem that I can't fix. |

My hurst shifter, what i ended up doing was removing the shifter and having brass bushing made and pressed in. I didnt like the idea of a nut and bolt holding it together and wanted the original pin and clips.

I believe the bolt and nut are solely for installing the metal bushings while the shifter is still in the car. If I read the instructions correctly, the pin and clips are re-used.

That is correct. I just did this last weekend. The bushings are way stiffer than the plastic ones. It was a bit of a pain getting the plastic ones out, but I was trying not to damage them just in case. I just dropped down the exhaust and driveshaft, leaving the guibo joint attached to the trans and it was all right there. Put a pry bar between the shaft and the guibo and the shaft will slide back and drop down a bit. The dust boot on mine came off and went back on easily. You only need to remove one of the clips on the pin and it will slide out. Probably took an hour.

Just my two cents, but the best mod I ever did to my Hurst Billet Two Plus (installed by previous owner) was remove it and replace it with a factory shifter. No more noise, no more slop, and works great.

Some feedback on this. It is impossible on a set of ramps. Car is no where near high enough. There is no way to get two hands up in there at the same time. Not at 200lbs and 6' 1".
Get her up high in the air on jack stands. Then it is only a fiddly pain to get done. Well worth it though. |

IIRC when I installed the one in my 2010 the instructions called for you to lower the trans cross member 3/4" to allow better access to reach in there. I believe it was just backing the bolts out on the driver's side. I did the install on jackstands without much difficulty. As my shifter was one of the first lot of 100 made, the bushings did indeed suck, but I traded the car before I got around to replacing them.
