Here's the thing...contact patch saves ET, yes...but so does rotating weight. That's why I landed on my TSW Nurburgrings. 8s out front and 9.5s out back. I have a buyer for my TSW so I have been looking at drag wheel options. My 18s out back are hooking and working well so I don't mind sticking with a 18" combo. So yeah...I'm still watching this thread too.

This is the cheapest and lightest combo that I have found. Look at the weight and prices of each. These wheels and tires would especially be good for driving to the track or for those late night grudge matches.
These would serve as front tires. They are only 25lbs and low rolling resistance. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes These 18 x 8" and 18 x 9.5" are light and pretty cheap. They are only 18lbs and 19.9lbs and cost about $250. each. http://www.tsw.com/alloy_wheels_interlagos.php These would be the best rear tires. http://www.jegs.com/i/Mickey-Thompso...d=#moreDetails All in all you save about 68lbs of rotating mass from the stock SS wheels and tires for cheap. The combo wouldn't set off any codes either because both front and rear tires are about the same height. Other than non roller skate brake pads on the front they wouldn't require any other special mods either. No special brakes or suspension parts. Best bang for the buck set up that I have found anyway that can be safely driven on the street.

That 225/60 is one of the ones I was looking at for a 18x5-8 rim.

Yes if new, I bought mine used with new tires for a playa price lol
They are made to fit most 5 lugs and need special nuts to work on our cars but clear good.

Those sparcos are very fragile wheels. I'd be wary.

More fragile than a 17 x 4" front runner with skinny front runner tires? What was your experience with them?
I was planning to order the set up above so that I could drive 1.5hrs to the track and back without having to change the wheels and tires at the track. Was not planning to DD them. Seems to me they would be safer than a skinny wheel and tire. Also guys, one thing I was going to verify with Tire Rack before ordering is the weight. I found what looked to be the same wheel in the same size but a different bolt pattern and offset at 20lbs. If the Sparco's are 20lbs then I would just order a matching TSW Interlagos which is 18lbs. 14.6lbs for a gravity cast wheel seems too good to be true so before anyone orders please verify weight.

But I do agree the Sparkos aren't a good choice. If you're gonna run 18x8's up front, you might as well run matching TSW's. My setup should get me that 9.99x slip soon enough. Padre |
