True Confessions (ready for flames)

Late Sunday evening I found out I needed to be in the Bay area, (I live in SoCall) Monday morning. Couldn't get a SouthWest flight that worked so decided to drive. Loaded up the wife and at the last minute threw in my handheld CB just for jollies. Left our house about 10:00 pm. Took it easy through the Grapevine keeping my eyes open for Chips. But when I got to the split off between I5 and CA. Highway 99 I put a little more foot in it (about 85). Shortly after that my wife hooked up on the CB with an overnight LA to SF trucker and ask about Chippers. He ask what we were driving and the wife told him a 2011 Orange Camaro. He then called ahead and said we could put the peddle to the metal. When we passed him we got a wave and a honk, and he passed us on to a guy ahead of him. For the next hour and a half or so, we had feedback from 3 different trucks on what they had seen in terms of Highway Patrol. When we ppassed the last guy, doing slightly over the speed limit, he said "you're on your own guys". Kicked it back and easily made the appointment in SF.
Stupid, immature (I'm 69) etc. etc., but damn it was fun.
As C W McAll says, the Camaro is like a rocket sled on wheels.

That's the way to travel.
I knew someone years ago that was driving from SoCal north in a '67 429 Cougar at 105mph. Said a CHPs Dodge Polara interceptor pulled up beside him, the driver looked over, complete with mirror shades and helmet, gave him a salute, then nailed it and left him in the dust. My buddy said, "I guess he figured if I was gonna kill anybody out here it was going to be myself"
Unfortunately, in this day and age it's just as much, if not more, about revenue than public safety. Therefore, you probably would be facing a 6 figure fine, life in prison, car confiscated and auctioned, 1st child sold into slavery, etc.
I would, and will, do it too though!

Did you look over and give your wife the nickname of Frog? =)

(for those that are lost on that comment, it's a reference to a certain notorious Black Trans Am that has a thing for ticking off Texas Sheriffs)

no flame here pal, that sounds fantastic. My commute is only about 30mins, and its all stop/go traffic. I wish I had an early morning meeting in the bay area... haha

Doesn't matter what age you are. The Camaro has the unique and rare ability that most cars do not; the ability to make everyone feel great about their automobile, and to drive it like a pissed off teenager.

Great story. What a drive. I can only imagine.
