It is possible but I have a feeling it will be in the 38-40k range for a 400hp maro.

highly unlikely. They have to compete with ford.

and with a corvette only a few thousand more than that.. i just dont see it being that expensive.. My guess is that the base V8 will start at around $28

How the hell, if the R/T is only 29,995 did the dealers around my house sell ALL of them Father's Day weekend for 58,000 :|

My brother in law stopped by a Dodge dealership the other day to look at a new SRT Challenger. He said the price was $42,000 and they added an addition $20,000 to the price for what they called a "Hard to Find Car Fee"
$62,000 for a new Challenger in my neck of the woods. I hope they don't do this to the Camaro next year.

my son works at a Dodge dealership and they have just delivered 5 challengers to customers over the last week. They are selling them at $10,000 over invoice in St. Louis. The price is ending up at $55,000.

One big reason the Camaro went away after 2002 is because it wasn't competitively priced with the Mustang; they HAVE to price the Camaro right at the Mustang's MSRP, for all models.
The v8 camaro needs to be within no more than a 1000 dollars of a v8 mustang. This is important. Base price of 2009 mustang gt premium is 28, 375. If you all remember an ls1 camaro was able to be had for 26k loaded. I would expect a loaded 2009 camaro ss m6 to be around 33 to 34k . Any more than this a gm is shooting themselves in the foot. With the c6 out there many dealerships will have to watch that oversticker BS because I along with many other people will say "screw you buddy I can find new vettes for that much" If you look around you can find new c6's for 41k. With the c6 auto which is basicly the same tranny that they will use here its a 1500 dollar option for the auto and that COULD be the case with the camaro. I fully inted to buy a new m6 camaro ss but I will not pay one cent over sticker, I work to hard for my money to flush it down the toilet. So most likely I will have to have wait for about a year after they are out in order to get the best deal. Iam shooting for couple grand under sticker and I hope that day come sooner than later.

I just drove the 08 Challenger SRT8. They are fast, but it has no muscle car feel when you start it and drive it. It reminds me of the sound of a foreign car, it's kinda whinney. Just not that impressed. The body of the car is awesome.

But when I got back to my 2000 camaro SS and started it up I said "Now that's a muscle car". Nothing like the sweeeet sound of a 350 Chevy engine. I don't care what the horse power.

well IMO you should stick to your 02 maro because the new camaro has similar weight to the challenger same horsepower same independent rear suspension so if the sound of a hemi doesnt make you feel muscle car than the camaro won't. It was probably the restricted exhaust anyway and to the guy that said the RT is a joke. The old one is the new RT has 380 hp and 6 speed stick, that is no joke. I hope the camaro is priced low but IMO chevy has always been more expensive than the mustang. Also the g8 gxp is close to 40 loaded what do you think a 2 door coupe with better looks will be? not cheaper imo.

That was me.

Although the Challenger R/T has 380-hp, thanks to the curb weight (north of 4000 lbs) it goes from 0-60 in just under 6 seconds; by comparison, my 320-hp Mustang GT (with some small mods) will run it in 5 flat, and it was $4,000 cheaper to boot.

I'll be honest, I love the styling of the Challenger, and Dodge's decision to make it such a porker brings tears to my eyes (not because of the safety features as much as the huge platform they chose to build it on), and the fact that I can spend less money and get a faster car with a non-boring interior doesn't bode well for the Challenger; especially not in a market that's all about speed and good looks for cheap.

umm...Sorry to burst your bubble but the new RT will certainly not go 0-60 in 6 seconds how can you know this it hasn't even been tested. The old RT does it in 5.8 regulary. The new ones will in my estimation do -60 in 5.4 or 5.3 and with a few mods 5.1. You guys underestimate the power of these cars. Yes it is a pig, just like the new camaro is weighting in at a hefty 3900+ lbs with the SS automatic. They are both pigs but they are fast pigs.

Oh and the mustang's interior isn't that great either. Look at the new RT seats with the ripples in them. IMO I would much rather have a better exterior than interior. Since when have muscle car interiors looked good? That is what modding is for.

I didn't realize that the Challenger R/T used a different tuning of the 5.7 than the Charger R/T did, so I was assuming the two cars shared horsepower and weight, since the SRT-8 models do.

So while my six second estimate is probably three-or-so tenths high, the fact remains that my $25k 320-hp Mustang GT has the same 0-60 time as the $40k 425-hp Challenger SRT-8, and gets about 7mpg better to boot. That's a no-brainer anyway you slice it.

Again, I love the styling of the Challenger, I really do. I have no doubt that one in black will look absolutely bad-ass. However, I'm not as concerned with interior, otherwise I'd buy a C-series or something. I want the most fun car I can get for the cheapest price, and right now the Mustang beats the Challenger hands-down.

...but I'm looking forward to the Camaro. Let's hope they make it tough for the Mustang and price it aggressively.

Yea I completely agree, the mustang gets close due to its weight but I love the challengers style plus the mustang gt doesn't have a great top end and the srt8 does. If they both run for a mile the challenger will take off after the 1/4 or so and from a roll same thing. That is the difference to me. But all these cars are great, the camaro will be great as well can't wait to see one n the road.

Confused!!!!!

Why is everyone comparing what we know to be the 2010 Camaro SS to the Chanlleger SRT8?

So far we only know of one V8 camaro which is there to compete against the Mustang GT and the Challenger R/T not the SRT8.

So If you look at pricing.

Camaro V6 vs Mustang V6 vs Challenger V6

Camaro V8 (SS) vs Mustang V8 (GT) vs Challenger V8 (R/T)

Camaro V8 (Z28) vs Mustang V8 (Rouch/Boss) vs Challenger V8 (SRT8)

Don't for get about the Corvette base coupe starts around $43k.

Camaro V6 needs to be in the low 20's
Camaro V8 (SS) needs to be upper 20's to low 30's
Camaro V8 (z28) needs to be priced in high 30's to low 40's
