Saturn Will Survive
I remember back in college, 1996 to be exact, having a Saturn was what most students wanted at that time. It was an economical brand, with excellent build quality. The best was the resale value at the time. It had probably the best resale value of any vehicle a few years before that. I know that might not be the case now, but they still have a very good following.
Their commercials stressed superb customer service and personalized attention to customer detail; very family sales oriented. Very comforting to buyers. Truth be told, it is clear that GM either plans to keep Saturn part of the pack, or make it very palatable for potential suitors. This is evidenced by all of their commercials recently on TBS/TNT. For a brand ready for the chopping block, GM is certainly not giving anybody this impression concerning Saturn. I personally wouldn't buy one, but apparently thier brand is still strong. Feel bad about Pontiac, but I don't think Saturn will share the same fate. Just my 2 cents. Last edited by DkknightX; 04-24-2009 at 06:15 PM. |

I had a 93 Saturn, bought it used about a year and a half old. I liked it....very peppy but still decent on gas. Sold it to my wife's cousin, she drove the snot out of it and it is still in their family with well over 200k on it.
Service at the dealership was awesome on the rare occasion it needed repair, nothing like the horrible service I recieved at the Chevy dealership. I have switched Chevy dealers for the Camaro, hopefully this one is better (so far, so good.) |

The push is to make Saturn some sort of dealer owned independent franchise offering cars from a variety of manufacturers. GM is not going to design a new Saturn, their current products will end their production cycle and then disappear.

Saturn has no new products planned past 2012. Once that model year rolls around, someone either needs to buy Saturn, the dealers need to cough up the money to run the brand themselves, or Saturn dies.

Yeah, I figured that is what they were doing. Trying to play it up for possible suitors down the road.

Sad. :( I always liked Saturn. That's what the car I had before my Malibu was - now my little brother drives it. The first car my parents brought new was a Saturn, and they put over 200,000 miles on it before they sold it last year.
However, a lot of GM's product lines had become too scattered and redundant - was there really a need for a Solstice and a Sky? Astra and Aveo? Hopefully scaling back these brands will help GM get back to a strong basic lineup of cars that will be profitable for them.

People stopped caring about HP and torque years ago. Why do you think we have horrid inventions such as the camry and civic?
