Track time in Canada?
I am looking around trying to find a race track to get on. One where they teach you how to drive on the track and then let you go nuts by yourself. Either in Saskatchewan or Alberta. I hear there is a track in Calgary but can't find anything on it. Anyone know anything?

Too bad Ontario has Shannonville awesome learner track and easy to rent (I believe its still open) and Mosport which if you wanted to check out Toronto car clubs and jump in with a car club day.

See if you can find a performance parts or dedicated car parts (not Canadian Tire) store. They might be able to point you in the right direction. If not maybe they know of some racing organizations you could get in touch with. Other than that Google is your friend.

You can go to the Strata Tech Track in Fort Saskatchewan, AB. Also you can contact the Alberta BMW Club, there are a number of Auto crosses set up in Alberta and the guys from the Alberta BMW club will know about them.
You have trouble finding anyone of these let me know and I will get you some contact names and Numbers. Also, if you join the Alberta Sportsman Club, they run their cars on the Edmonton Municipal Indy Race Track during the Grand Prix. |

the same guys rent Namao Air Base a few times a year, and it costs 100 bux for the weekend. if you cant drive, they kick you off. Many of them run the N/A classes, so
they aren't super fast movers. lotsa porsche GT2's & 3's and such cars. i assume your in Swift Current. i think calgary is your closest bet. i have buddies that have taken the first class racing license at race city.... they run the 1/4 mile, then race back on the return road, and have a few twisties in between. the fort sask track is way way better skill wise. no big straight tho. the guys i know with cash have cars trucked/flown stateside for winter racing. perhaps you are a left turner, and are interested in the Richard Petty driving school in the states. i think daytona has one, vegas, i know rtheres a bunch you can fly to and take classes. i suggest the full day --superspeedway coarse. i see you drive a vette, so the 2.5k a day shouldnt scare you. |

Contact the Calgary Corvette Club, a member of ( Canadian Council of Corvette Clubs)
CCCC. They have slaloms every long weekend across Western Canadian major centers.

Davenport usually rents track time for performance enthusiasts, and there is some mentoring but its best to have some expereince before hand, also several car clubs will rent track time, but you usually have to be a member, so there are certainly lots of options Here are a couple of schools that work out of race city as a start! Warning - very addictive http://www.allenbergracingschools.com/ http://www.tracktechniques.ca/schools.html |
