How often should I change my oil?
It's been around 15 years since I last owned a car that took synthetic oil. I'm bringing my car to the dealer tomorrow to get its first oil change since purchasing the car in January.
I've heard all different numbers all the way up to every 10,000 miles. How often should I be changing it? Also if it's over 3,000 miles, will it void my warranty? |

I use Mobil 1 and change it every 5K or once a year.

I put about 12K miles per year on mine. I change the oil as soon as I feel like doing it after 4K miles.

I'm on the same pace as you. That will probably be my routine as well. I guess time will probably outweigh milage in our scenario. |

Well I just got back from the dealer. The sticker on the windshield has a date of 10/22/15 and 5,000 miles from now. Unless something happens to my DD, I wont be hitting 5,000 miles for at least a year and a half so I guess I'll just get it done about a year from now.

I use the oil life indicator. I usually wait until it gets to 10-15 percent life and then I change it.

I did that for all of 50k miles, now that I added cam and turbos, I change it every 4k miles on the dot.

if using the dexos semi synthetic the dealer puts in just go with the oil life indicator or once a year.
MRREVINTO7 absolutely no reason to change your oil at 600 miles unless you are tracking the car . you are basically dumping new oil. with a cammed car do 3000 to 5000 on either Amsoil Z rod 10w30 or Driven LS30

Change it every 10 years, or every 100,000 miles.
Or...you can change it every time you drive it. Or somewhere in between. Seriously, you have to do what makes sense to you. There are the "3K mile no matter what" types, and then there are the "wait until the oil life monitor tells me" types. And then there's always those in between or longer. Best advice if you're really serious about finding your sweet spot is to do one of those blackstone lab kits and get an oil analysis done and figure out what makes sense to you as far as drain intervals. It will tell you a lot about your oil based on YOUR engine. But if the engine is new, it'll usually show different results at first as it wears in. Otherwise, use a trigger point that makes you feel all gooshy inside. I like to do the OLM monitor myself as it gets around 10-15% then schedule it to be done, and have NEVER had any issue using Mobil 1, even after sending samples to blackstone just to verify.

mobile 1 is full but if you just ask for a oil change you get what ever semi dexos they have that month. Find out what Mobile1 recommends might be 10,000
