dude. ive been working since 16. i bought my own ps3. i even had to buy my own first car. 3000 is alot when your 17. get your grades and go to college. look at me. im still 19 and i just nailed my job thanks to college. $64,000 first year plus commission capping my total possible income for the year @ $90,000. $90,000 is alot when your 20. be glad you have your clothes cuz im sure your parents helped you there. things you dont need i.E. ps3 and wii should not have to be because of your parents. it makes a good gift sure. but do you need it??? no. food clothes and shelter are what you NEED. be glad they even offered you a chance to get you a car. honestly a new camaro is kinda much but if your fortunate they will get it for you.

sry if it seems a little harsh but thats life, and experiencing it is the only way to know, even if it hurts

and welcome. im not bringing you down, just a reality check. when your young your invincible. when you hit 18 you realize you better get crackin because money doesnt last. work for what you earn and you will appreciate it more that way. Stovt001 puts it in a good way. and i live in ca too EVERYTHING is expansive. i pay my own insurance and gas. that alone with bills like a cell and credit cards(i used em for college) i easily use 700 a month. that was at my old job. be smart kid, when your young you make the choices that affect you forever. i got lucky, and you might even say i had it hard. save your money. manage it well. you DONT NEED the wii. save for your car. help your parents with it. if i could go back i would change alot. money wise i was stupid. i was pretty much living paycheck to paycheck. just save.

sry, i had alot to say

Alright, I had to weigh in on this. This new Camaro is going to be so much more than a drag car. The suspension is not going to be like that of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations.

This is going to be a true sports car that you can road race at your local SCCA events. Short wheel base, powerful motor, and wheels pushed out to the corners.

So, if youre gonna get a V-6 than you might as well get an auto, which knowing GM you will probably only be able to get the V6 in an auto. But if youre gonna get a V-6 you might as well get a Malibu and have fun pickin up your groceries.

If youre gettin a Camaro, get the V8. Ive always hated the option for a V6 in a muscle car. Its like gettin an F-15 with a cessna motor. Same goes for the tranny. If youre gettin a V-8 wouldnt you want to use every single bit of that powerband, and not have a computer manage it?

Livin in a big city I know that stop and go traffic can make ya pull your hair out, but if ya know how to drive and are proficient with a stick than its really not that much of a big deal. Plus with all this AFM discussion going on I really dont think that the fuel consumption will be that big of a deal vs. an auto.

Its your car though, get what ya want.

^Nothing wrong with a V6. In fact, that's what's going to keep the sales of the Camaro alive.

A V6 w/ 300hp getting great gas mileage??? Not to mention the fact that it's almost going to be as fast as a 4th Gen Z28...HECK, the FASTEST V6 Camaro ever produced for that matter! A couple mods here and there and you could EASILY be looking at the same HP as a STOCK 4th Gen Z28/SS!!!

Oh, and did I mention "I saved a lot on my V6 car insurance?"

Lol. Nice. Yeah, I always told myself that I'd be happy w/ 300 hp. Plus I'm just a 19 y/o kid. I dunno if I could handle that much anyways but I never thought I'd be getting that much hp from a V6! I always thought that one of the MAIN characteristics of a muscle car was having a V8.

I dunno. I'll probably still go for the V8. Heritage still matters to me. I just hope I can handle those sharp turns going 50 mph :( MUAHAHAHHA

take those corners at 35 mph first. lol

but the MAIN characteristic of a muscle car...is that it has MUSCLE. tho v-8s are the lineage of muscle cars, think about the turbo v-6 Buick Regals that gave vette owners fits at the track.

3 years till you get your liscense and you parents already promised you a new car? Life must be nice...do yourself a favor and get a beater for a year so you have your first accident in that instead of the Camaro...

I agree. This is not meant to be a starter. You've got to learn how to drive. I know there are plenty of people who learned on muscle cars or RWD platforms, but I don't want to be on the road with any of them.

I learned in a 1970 Cutlass. Coming off a freeway offramp in the rain, I learned how to control a drift, all on my own. I recommend learning in a safe and sane car first. I'm running a luck deficit now.

Could my parents afford something better than this as my first car?

(Yes...I'm off roading going down a pretty steep and rocky trail. Lotsa fun!)
Yep. Would they? Nope. It's called a beater for a reason. Thank God it was a 77 Chevy Caprice Classic for my first car which was beaten to death muddin', running over curbs, powerslides in the sand down at the coast (at about 45 mph!!!=that was freakin fun), jumping over railroad tracks, etc, etc...I mean c'mon. Anyone will probably say they won't do it, but the majority of us get a lil' whacky with our first cars. And most of us have something happen at that age. Let it be to a beater...not a brand new 5th Gen.

On the other hand, if you get one, take care of her/him. If you don't, ...
