Question Considering trading in 2011 2SS convertible...

So, I've had my 2011 2SS vert for a little over a year now. It was the first convertible to pop up in town, so I jumped at it, sacrificing manual for automatic. I'm overpaying for it as well, seeing as it was owned by the dealer, who only put 300 miles on it, but wanted full price. Nonetheless, I am completely in love with it. I had been following the ZL1, but had no clue about the 1LE until recently. Now I am considering trading my love in for a new 1LE coupe ($3,500 for 1LE package means no transforming). My camaro is my daily driver (minus snow months of course), and I'm not looking to take it to the track. So, is this a dumb idea? The way I see it is I'd be adding the penis back to my car (manual tranny), small performance upgrade, and a much cooler in dash audio and nav system, and I'd be losing my rag top and a years worth of payments.

so... opinions camaro faithful?
oh... not you convertible haters tho.

1LE is a pretty sweet ride. I'm in South Florida and I drop the top every day. That would be more useful to me than the better performance of the 1LE because South Florida has nothing but flat, straight roads, and I'm not a track day guy. You really can't go wrong either way.

Well I can say from personal experience the 1LE is an amazing car, I love every minute of driving it.

As far as making the switch that's up to you, what do you value more? I personally hate convertibles unless they're hardtops so that was out of the question for me.

It all depends on how much you enjoy dropping the top and enjoying the wind and sun.

How often would you be pushing the car enough to take advantage of the better handling of the 1LE?

There's always the option of just upgrading the suspension of your convertible.

I'd keep the convertible, but then that come from a convertible lover that went from a 2011 2SS/RS convertible to a ZL1 convertible.

Don't know that you'd get your money's worth from the 1LE package as a daily driver up there. I've considered the same thing since mine is a third car for me (no DD). Just drove a friend's new 1LE over the weekend; very different feel from the convertible! As a daily driver, you'll be replacing those Goodyears every few thousand miles, even if you don't track it much. If your new hobby is autocross, by all means make the jump!

Might be a little hard to sell a convertible in that region this time of year...

Its really a financial decision, only you can say yes or no. I'd hate to lose the drop top!

Not sure I would trade in for the 1LE package if you are not really going to use it. Of course if the manual thing is really the problem then I would consider it as it is more involved to change your current car. If you want better handling (which you are not going to the track) you could just upgrade your suspension with some after market parts. The convertible was key on me getting my car and I did not want to wait for ZL1 convertible from Chevy. If money is no object, then you should go for it if it is what will make you happy.

Think the only way you could regret the move is if they came out with a 1LE vert. lol. Just remember that the 1LE is mostly suspension & appearance upgrades more so than anything engine wise, but for sure a 1LE would be a nice upgrade IMO.

I would not do it. If you don't track your car then the vert will be more comfortable. It wont handle as well, but if your not tracking the car, the convertible is more than adequate for the street. Also the straight line performance is not that much of a different. Same engine, and almost the same final drive ratio(with all considered). The 1LE has the 3.91 but it has taller trans gears. The only way I will trade mine in is for an LS7(if they make one), to me that is a big difference.

Call me crazy then, My 1LE is my DD. Wanted more than an SS and less than ZL1. The engine is the same as SS but Texas back road driving is a dream.

I hear you on that, the 1LE will out handle a SS which will out handle a vert. If you do a lot of winding driving the 1LE is good. I just think with the bath the OP will take on trading in the vert I don't know how wise a decision that may be. Plus he would be loosing the "vert". I guess it depends on how aggressive, and where he drives. If he has winding road then maybe, but if its pretty much standard city driving then its not worth it. Just my two cents

Did you upgrade an SS Camaro for your 1LE? And no "vert", if you just want improved handling you upgrade fairly cheaply and get a big improvement - keeping in mind he indicating no track time.

I did not think the vert lost anything in handling to an SS due to the reinforcement that was added - not that effects me since my car has full race suspension.
