Hood before and after cleaning

I know we have talked a lot about different cleaners for our hoods. I got this today and tried it out. The top one is the "dirty" hood and the bottom is after using the product.

WOW thats great, still maintains the same appearance but has a protective layer on it. I have this at home, but with the rain here I havent been able to use it. Thanks for posting this, a lot of members have struggled with their 1LE hoods and this should help.

I got some this also. First time I tried it I got some runs. I think it is time to try it again as soon as I finish polishing and waxing it.

I saw that also but I used two microfiber towels - one to clean with the product and the other to quickly dry it. That helped

I bought their meticulous matte detailer early this year and didn't like the result at all - I found it to be "splotchy" for lack of a better word. Packaging was different and it wasn't described as a sealant, so maybe they've changed the secret formula It did smell nice, like peach candy or something.

Please let us know how it holds up. I've been using Adam's SVRT and I'm happy with the finish but it's a lot of work to keep up... I spend more time coating & buffing the hood than I'd like. I might have to give the CG stuff another try.

Where'd you get the product from? I'm still undecided on which to try first. I've just been wiping my hood down with a towel after raining days, then setting her in the garage.

Cookie, you get it from Chemical Guys

I just tried it again and only used one towel and it turned out very nice. I think I will try it again when needed. I am liking it better than Adams because it does not have the shine.

I mixed up a bucket of Meguires Gold car wash and used it as lubricant to clay bar the hood. The bar removes the surface contaminants and leaves the hood clean, yet doesn't change the coloring.

I found that just using really hot water with Meguires Gold car wash removes any splotching and makes it look good. You just need to wash it once a week to maintain it.

Your before and after look nearly identical, and not black. I trust you that this product works but it'd be neat to see a black and dirty hood with dust and water spots then the cleaned up hood afterwards.

I use Adams VRT. The trick is to follow the example in their video and to buff it by hand with scratch free towel. The results are great! If you don't buff by hand and only apply with the foam applicator then VRT yields a horribly streaky mess. I like VRT b/c it has UV protection and claims to protect the hood from fading over time. I used to only apply once every 2-3 month b/c of the streaky mess but now that I understand how to properly buff and smooth the product I'm doing it ever 2-3 washes; I was weekly.

Someone on this forum suggested using "Back to Black". DON'T DO IT. It's a mess on this hood and crap will stick to your hood worse than the road dirt on our 1LE's sticky tires.

I really like Chemical Guys' products. Somewhere on this forum I posted a comparison of all their wash products. Look for it. It's neat. If the Meticulous Matte product also has UV protection I might try it when I run out of VRT.

Good idea. I need to try that. Also, Adams on their videos suggest claying your window.

Did you use a standard clay bar or one of those spray clay type products?

I like your sig block, CM. Good stuff. I've been struggling for a name for my rig. I'm trending towards "Red Dragon" b/c, man, that NPP exhaust is fire breathing!
