Need Some Good Cam Advice
I have a 2011 Camaro 2SS and so far I have gotten some lt headers w/ highflow cats, a new k&n cai intake, muffler delete, and some hawk breakpads.. The next thing I was looking to do is get a cam swap for my l99 engine but I am confused on what I need to intall it. Some people say i need to convert part of it to a ls3 and others are saying you have to disassemble the whole engine. If possible can someone make a list w/ links of the equipment/cam/ect that is most recommend for me? Thanks!
P.s. What mods should I do next? I'm getting lowered springs delivered Sunday |

I would recommend calling Ted at Jannetty Racing. He can hook you up with everything you'll need for the cam swap. Great company to deal with.
Next mod? Pfadt ZL-spec sway bars. I did mine along with drop springs... What a different animal! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Search is your friend.
But you have an L99 and you can stay either L99 and keep VVT and get a MAST SS cam with a 32/34/3600 stall get it tuned by rhino79 or you can go Ls3 conversion and get a NF cam. But you need to remove the heads and get rid of the AFM lifters either way. Just my .2

How bout some bad cam advice for a change?
Install the cam backwards and drive in reverse. I hear the intake is a lot better at scavenging than the exhaust.

With the L99 engine a lot of shops try to sell you VVT delete kits mostly because of a lack ok knowledge on how VVT works & how to tune it. We developed our VVT camshafts using a superflow engine dyno which allows us to make a matching VVT timing table for each rpm point up the entire rpm band. The result is a camshaft that uses different amounts of advance at different rpm points.
There's no reason to remove VVT & give up power. If you'd like to discuss the cam packages & how VVT works give us a call. You simply can't make close to the same average power with a non-VVT camshaft as you can a VVT cam. A perfect example of how well VVT can work is the VVT-3 camshaft makes 100 flywheel HP gain & still brings power in early thanks to the VVT. Most large camshafts give up some low rpm power because they can't be advanced a lot early in the rpm band. The VVT allows you to do just that & the result is you can bring power in earlier!! VVT removal is a mistake, and you are sacrificing better power throughout the whole curve by doing so.
Current bad myths... VVT Phaser isn't reliable.....complete bs. Ran it on my car up to 7600 rpms a lot of times. Ran it on fi setups. VVT is a gimmick......complete bs. Sure GM uses it more so for EGR than power, but it is ON THE FLY cam degreeing. With a properly speced cam, it doesn't get any better than that. My own personaly car runs high 10's on stock heads, with a vvt cam and afm delete. I have no interest in converting an l99 car to ls3. I don't like going backwards with things. If you have any particular questions just shoot me a pm or email. |
