...you're right 68RS, and since Chevy caused us all thiis psychological stress I think it would be nice if they offered the three of us the ZL1 for cost, doncha think?....I mean...just sayin'......LOL

You know in 1967 the 389 was bumped to 400 ci, and they dumped the 3 deuces for a quadrajet. I always wanted 3 - 2's, but kept my 67 stock.

You're welcome Htron! Oh that reaching back feeling exists with me as well, no doubt there is a commitment within Chevy to honor their past and present achievements. Chevy has a fully functional WAYBAC machine hidden somewhere. Speaking of the past, say hello to my little friends..<they were big on reaching back too! LOL>

OK, I'm in on this. I WILL have my ZL1 also. I'm reaching for it, just hope I have good enough health to enjoy it (if you know what I mean)..... time is a wastin!

It's fun to occasionally wax nostalgic about the times of one's youth. That bygone era during the height of affordable and available GM muscle was definitely a wonderful time. The music rocked and the cars were cool. It was an era of extremely high expectations when we thought that technology could solve all of our problems.

For example, if we could put a man on the moon, we thought we could solve any problem, from poverty, to pollution, to cancer. As we now know, in reality, things are not quite as simple as we once thought they were, and, unfortunately, the complex problems of the world can't always be solved simply by advancements in technology.

However, every now and then, it is nice to be able to recapture the feeling of that era's endless possibilities, if only for a fleeting moment, such as when one sees a pristine Marina Blue 1967 396 SS Camaro, which can trigger memories of that magical weekend at the Monterey County Fairgrounds in June 1967. Ah, but I digress.

For me the new ZL1 evokes the kinds of feeling that I had when I first saw the GM performance cars of that golden era, from the 1963 Corvette, the 1964 GTO, the 1965 396 Chevelle SS, the 1967 Camaro, the 1968 Corvette, the 1969 Camaro, and the 1970 Chevelle, just to name a few of the great ones.

I'm a bit older, and hopefully a lot wiser, these days, but I still enjoy feeling those juices start to flow when I hear the sounds of a great high performance V8 engine emanate from a beautifully designed GM muscle car.

My ZL1 won't be a daily driver for me, but when I do take it out, it will provide the best of both worlds, as it will have the best that current technology has to offer (and all of the creature comforts that old school muscle cars didn't have), and yet it will be able to evoke the feelings, if just for a moment, of the days of affordable GM muscle when performance was to readily available to any who walked into their local GM dealership. Very cool, indeed.

I'm glad that Chevrolet has offered us the opportunity to have one more chance to experience the vehicle of our dreams.

You see my GTO in the pic? My High School GTO. Had to give it up due to disability, finances, etc (mid 90's)..... It was part of me. My son, in pic, to this day and in his 30's wants to know "why" I "had" to sell it. Now, a few years (14) later, I am trying to fill that hole it left in my life and in some ways, my spirit. I won't go into a long story, but the ZL1 is the first car that has come along that made me dream the way I did when I got my GTO in 1967. And the nice thing about it is, my wife feels what it means to me too, so she's on board. So when you speak of the "spark" my friend, this old fart is feeling complete again.... and I don't even have it yet. But I will. Soon enough. There are times we encounter that we know are "special", and it is up to us to recognize that. Those who dreamt about the ZL1 and made it come true for us "know" what they have done. Thanks to them for doing this for us. And....Thanks for your story and may you and those you speak of be free to dream.
