Question from what years does the 5th gen borrow?

I have to admit i don't know a lot about camaros (or cars in general ) but I was just looking at the timeline of the camaro and i was wondering what are the more obvious items the new camaro is borrowing from previous years?

as far as i can tell, the front grille looks like a '69 model (it is pushed a little to back, underneath the hood.)

anything else?

Officially it's influenced by the 1969 mainly.

But, personally, I see as much 3rd Gen with it's angular lines and 'beefy' stance, as I do 1969. If not more.

It's a fusion of 1st and 3rd Gen imo with a bit of futuristic thrown in to make it so modern.

'67 fenders and body lines, '69 grill and headlights, '68 Taillights and reverse lights, and the stance, and other various cues from the 3rd gen (like others have said). Just my 2 cents.

C-pillars are close to 1st gen.
Shark gills on the front of the 1/4 panels are 69,
<edit>Look at a side view photo, cover the bottom 2/3rds of the car just look at the top 1/3rd, that's 1969 with a chopped top! (sorta)
The dash and console have hints of 1st gen
The square speedo-tach pods are 69ish
The 4 gauges on the front of the console,
The drivers view of the hood is prolly close to 69 with the ZL2 hood.
A back seat only a 6 year old could love, that's 1st gen baybee!

Generally it is derived from the 1st gen, the roofline being the best proof of this. While the side gills and grilles are derived from the 69's, the tail lights and reverse lights are a direct throwback to the 1968 model year. The 1967 tail lights didn't have a split down the middle like the 68's did.

I don't think it's inspired from the third gen at all. The beefy stance can be boiled down to general styling fashion in sports or muscle cars as of late.

There are other subtle hints like a hood framed to a header(1st gen), and the crease that runs down the side of the car (67-68).

It would be nice to see some comparison pics... I too am not from round here... I am from Scotland, moved to the USA 6 years ago, so I only know the 4th gen Camaro 'well'... I wouldn't want to put pics up here and get it wrong as I am 'uninformed' when it comes to older American muscle cars and there are a lot more qualified enthusiast on this forum!

The new Camaro will be my first 'American Muscle Car'! (Woo hoo!)... can't wait!

Having gone on a vacation to England and Scotland several years ago, I can tell you about this weird light that you're probably not used to since you're arrived, it's called the sun. J/K.

I remember watching a podcast back when the concept came out where someone from GM said the taillights were actually inspired by 2nd gen, not first.

The 69's provided most of the styling cues, per "Ed," AFAIK.

However, the 70 1/2 taillights, DO seem to be an inspiration for the 5th's "afterburners," for sure.

Thanks, bret! I had not even thought of that, until you pointed it out.

Did I mention that I REALLY want a 70 1/2 Camaro!?!?

WILL SELL MY SOUL FOR A MUSEUM-QUALITY 70 1/2 CAMARO!!

Otherwise, a 2010 SS will do QUITE WELL.

Dude, I'd sell your soul for a 70 1/2 camaro. Just saying.
- Xanthos

P.S. - Personally, I see a lot of fifth gen influences in the new camaro...
