So today I did my second oil change and I also noticed after refilling the stick shows about 1/2-3/4 quart low. Not wanting to overfill I have left it that way and have been looking online for any other explanation why. Anyways, I stumbled across this link http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/vehi...brand_gm.html/

And in the performance paragraph it says the Camaro will have a new oil pan with a 8.9 quart capacity.

What does everyone think?

Brian

You should check the dipstick after the oil is at normal operating temp. The easiest way to do this is to check it at a fuel stop, after you pump your gas, so the oil has time to drain back into the crankcase.

Here's another reference to the 8.9 quart capacity

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/images/camarospecs.pdf

Last page. I know this information was preproduction but the fact that many people including myself find the oil level on the dipstick low after an oil change makes me think the manual is wrong or the pan has more capacity but 8 quarts is enough. I've changed oil in alot of different cars and the oil level has always been at the top of the full mark when putting in what the owner's manual called for. Thats just my experience.

8.0 gets me to the full line on my L99.

Is the LS3 oil pan any different?

Mine is always slightly below the full mark when it's cold, but right at the mark when it's hot. You need to check it when it's hot. With 8 quarts, there is a lot of expansion.

Hey, the tires are SUMMER tires and DFW had a rough winter. Having 2 back surgeries in 2012 and getting run over by a car in the crosswalk at Walmart on September 19, 2013, didn't help my mobility or ability to drive my new SS.
