I'm working on a 87 iroc with a 350 tpi. It runs pretty good but when its idling, it idles fast then slow. I can't keep the check engine light off to check the codes. The book says it could be a bad prom or not grounded well. I've checked the grounds that a can see easy. The computer #is 1227165, the prom could be an after market? Don't have the # on it tonight. Anyone got any Ideas?

What codes are you getting? Do you know how to pull codes?

If I take the cable off the or unplug it the light come right back on and when I try to get the codes the light just stays on ?

If no code 12 then the ECM is bad. Here is a list of ECM's that will interchange. Keep in mind you still need your PROM out of your ECM to plug into your new one.

1987-90 Astro/Safari Van with 2.5L 4 cylinder

1991 BlazerS10/Jimmy S15 with 4.3L 6 cylinder (with 1227165 ECM)

black tape...sold in rolls in most hardware stores. $.79. Solved.

Yea I had to use the tape on a dodge one time,but I was trying to get it fixed so it would idle right etc.
