Exclamation Clicking sound from rear axle

  • Since I purchased my 2SS-RS LS3 6S I have noticed some clicking sounds coming from rear axle area on acceleration and decceleration. Local gm dealer found that the axle hub to axle spline nut was loose. This was allowing the hub to turn slightly on the spline causing clicking noises. Simple fix, but if you think you have this problem chech it out right away. If the nut comes off, so does the attached wheel!!!

My camaro was doing the same thing, the dealer replaced left shaft and replaced both nuts last week. I'am at 2900 miles.
*On my invoice it said
Found noise from loose axle to hub allowing splines to pop
called TAC# 11034922
was directed to replace left axle asm for this concern
replaced left rear axle asm. and install and torque new nuts on both axles.

That would suck if a wheel come flyN off on the freeway for a torque issue.

I need to know what kind of clicking sound this was. I have had a click from what sounds like the rear of my SS almost since new. It only happens when taking off from a complete stop though, forward or reverse. Was this the sam eor similar for you guys? Thanks for your help.

I'll wager 37 cents the wheel will not fall off.

The hub is bolted to the knuckle, and the rotor is not going anywhere with the caliper still bolted down...

Excellent!

I've also noticed a clicking coming from one of the wheels (I believe) that responds to the speed I'm going. If I'm going real slow I can hear 2 or 3 clicks for every rotation of the wheels. Anyone else getting anything like that? Kinda sounds like as a kid when I would put a card on my bike so it made noise when it hit the spokes.

I have not heard this one yet...is it coming from the back or front?

Honestly can't tell. Could be anywhere. I can only really hear it when next to a wall, so I'm inclined to say it's on the driver's side, but can't tell fromt or back.

There's a TSB for what exactly? The same thing as described above? The axle housing issue? Thanks.

I have the same sound in mine. I brought it in the end of last year and was told that there was nothing wrong with it. Time to bring it back and tell them exactly what to check out.
