Only 1800 Z/28's built values are holding steady in the low-mid $40's for the past 12 months...
ZL1 production is 1000's per yr since 2012 If you're only doing 1000 mi/y like you said... i'd get a low mile Z/28 and your money will be safe there for sure.

Either car is great to own, like I said there really is no wrong answer...but you can save some $ by getting a ZL1, Ive seen some low mileage ones in the mid 30s. I wish they made the Zl1 in a stripped down version like the Z28 is. Another positive for the Zl1 is that the drivetrain/ rear end is pretty bullet proof. I believe the Z28 didn't get the heavy duty rear end and twin disc clutch.

I don't think the OP is too concerned with a vehicle holding its value. It appears as if he drives 'em for a while, gets bored and turns the page. If I were going to spend ~$90k on a pavement-pounding weekend toy, it surely wouldn't be an SUV. To each their own I suppose.

I'd guess just between the 9.9" diff, twin disc and supercharger it costs close to 200 lbs. They obviously came to the conclusion that 470 lb-ft torque didn't warrant the heavier duty components.

Love it! Thing looks like it's going to eat you alive. Everyone stares. The rough ride isn't at all as bad as I expected.
Rear bumper has a bit of damage that the dealer never told me about before I drove 5 hours! Are new ones available? Came with a stereo system already installed. Two 10" subs in trunk.... which kills the weight saving, lol. Paint is pretty swirled up from only having 1 owner. But I can do a paint correction on it.

Is it worth putting all this effort into this for a car you will only put 1,000 miles on in a year?

Love it!... I always loved the way Z28s looked compared to ZL1's. How do you like it compared to the Challenger...what are the pros and cons?..
