Don't get it confused I love the car I just think they could have done more with similar mods and gotten more power out of it
Every OEM runs their engines at WOT at length to ensure durability. They also have to pass emissions in every state. You don't, but they do. Why? They're an automaker, you're a guy modding his car. You get to play be a different rule book.

If you want more, just pass on the warranty & go as big as you can afford with mods. You won't need too many.

If these figures are correct the camaro will actually be a bit slower.

I think the source is probably wrong and the car is about 4k and just a bit quicker than the GT500
Because the CTS-V coupe spanked the gt500? And maybe cause the Cts-v coupe is as HEAVY or HEAVIER than the zl1... Oh and cause it has 556 horse and 556 torque, OH and MAYBE... the ZL1 has 580 HORSEPOWER? it's gonna spank the gt500 again. No doubt.

The car gained 340 lbs over a standard SS? And they even took weight reduction steps? I understand the supercharger etc will add another 150lbs or so...and other heavier duty components...but they also lightened the car in ways also. I dont see the car gaining more than 150-200 lbs.

4200 lbs is ridiculous...as if the regular camaro wasnt heavy enough.
Check the GM press release (http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170305). Did they announce the weight? No? Well then ... its just speculation from a website.

The CTS-V is almost as quick as the GT500. It has less power & less grip than the ZL1. So the ZL1 will clearly be faster than the CTS-V, which also gives it the edge over the GT500. Make sense?

And, because I can't stress this enough, 4200 lbs isn't official - its speculation, just like price, performance, and fuel economy.

The main issue is IMO the ultra soft compound of the Cup tires combined with the heavy weight of the ZL1. With spirited driving, let alone track driving, I doubt these tires last past 3000-4000 miles. I've heard they only last about 5000 miles on the much lighter ZR1.

You gotta pay to play I know, but damn.

Lol, no, I meant that I was already in med school and finished with it. i still have to finish undergrad. I could of skipped some grades but my dad was in the military and they wouldn't allow me to skip grades due to the constant moving.

Anyway, I'm loving this car and look forward to seeing it in person.

Only way to transfer this much power to the pavement.

IF we're over 4100 pounds (which I doubt) we need sticky to stay 11.xx in the quarter - bone stock.

I can live with that. Just have to have a set of general purpose tires and one for the strip.

plus there will be people that may only put 3000miles on it total in its lifetime. the collector types. for everyone else if you can afford this car you can either afford the tires or to get a second set for nomal use.

Please keep my name on the list.

I've been waiting for a factory high performance 5th Gen Camaro (read ZL1) since Monday, January 9, 2006.

I'm really looking forward to owning and driving a ZL1. It's definitely the vehicle of this era for me.

I'm sorry to all those I honor in my signature, however, this post takes the cake and says so much for all those ridiculous posts that are like the one 'father is speaking to.

ALL HAIL SCOTT!!!

As far as the Sport Cup tires - only a few thousand miles doesn't sound all that cool, however, to come as a factory option means mountains to me. That means I can compare apples-to-apples when it comes time to line up against competitors. It's not like there's anything the competition could do that would change my mind anyways, but it also makes for good benchracing.
