I read in the manual that all music on thumb drives and other devices (non-iPod) must be in MP3 format. Interestingly, this was not mentioned for iPods. I assume that when an iPod is used, DRM-protected (iTunes) music will play via the USB connection. Then again, maybe I'm wrong.

Songs from iTunes are usually m4p not mp3. Buy your music from amazon. Much better and they are mp3s. Most aftermarket devices (read camaro) will only play mp3 songs. There used to be converters out there but apple put the kibosh on them. I'm sure there are ways to do it. Just have to google search m4p to mp3 converter. I have no idea how to do things with the mac though. Just have to research it a bit. Macs are the devil.

well it might be the long way around, BUT if you are really wanting those songs in your itunes and put them on a flash for your car, using itunes, burn a cd of the songs in a NORMAL (like .cda) format......then take that cd and rip it to mp3's, then put the mp3's on your flash drive for your car. at least it works till you can get something else.

You can convert itunes "AAC" files/etc to mp3's within the itunes software - highlight the track, go to Advanced Tab/ create a mp3 version. There are alot of itunes songs that will not allow you to convert them, which is why I stopped buying them. Not sure if this has changed or not. But the itunes converter works well.

Also, when downloading a cd in to itunes , go to Edit/Preferences/General/Import Settings and change default setting to mp3. I already had downloaded about 100 cd's before I foundt this out.(Default setting is AAC I think. But I used the above mp3 converter within itunes to change the AAC files back to mp3's, then deleted the AAC files.
