Best Scanning/Monitoring only software?

I don't need the tuning capabilites only need scanning. Is there such a program that I can hook up to the car using a laptop and log data to look at later when I get home. I have a dashhawk, but it's logging capabilites suck. Thanks!

HP Tuners does market a scanner only package. Don't know how it compares to others.

Just curious, why don't you want/need the ECM editor?

If I need some tuning, I will have a professional do it and there will be no tuning in the near future. I just got a new intake and some people want some fuel trim info, IAT info, and such.

HPTuners has an awesome scanner, but it's $349 for the standard and $499 for the Pro. You could do and Aeroforce scan gauge. Maryland Speed has them for a great price.

Does this log data? I need a product that can allow me to analyze the info after the fact.

Yes, you can log data and save the file. You do need a computer. The Pro version is only necessary if you want to log wide band O2 with the ECM data.

EFILive also has just a logging software. You can download a demo at www.efilive.com.

I have been using it for years.

A few questions. How do you view data later. Via a computer, what is required? How much data can it store? Like a few seconds or like data I have logged for say 30 minutes. Are these available to the average joe commercially?

How do I hook my computer up to the car? I'm assuming an OBDII cable with usb to the computer, but where would I get this cable?

IIRC, along with not having the WB inputs, you can't blackbox datalog with the standard. I love the blackbox datalogging. Not having to take a laptop along everytime I scanned was a huge plus. I just sold my HPTuners Pro Suite yesterday.

the gm VDR is only for short record/snap shots,, but the live data and codes works like any scan tool, comes with version 25 software and it automatically updates when connected to the internet,, and it covers all gm, saturn, saab vehicles from 1996 - 2011,, here are the camaro modules that you can get live codes and data from:

ECM
TRANSMISSION
AIRBAG
BODY CONTROL MODULE
RADIO
FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE
ELECTRONIC BRACKE CONTROL MODULE
FRONT SEAT HEATER CONTROL MODULE
INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER
MULTIMEDIA PLAYER INTERFACE
PARK ASSIST MODULE
PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE
HEAT AND AC MODULE
ONSTAR MODULE
AUX GAUGE PACK MODULE

there is no other scan tool that you can buy for $200 that will get codes and data from all these modules and have complete gm , saturn, saab coverage from 1996-2011
