Tune Before or After Exhaust
My car is straight piped, no resonator and no mufflers. Gonna get an intake pretty soon. I like the way it sounds right now. I might change my mind down the road and get a cat back exhaust.
So I was wondering if I should get the exhaust first then tune it, or tune it after I get my intake? |

No tune required until you go long tube headers, cam, etc...
Pick a CAI that does not require a tune. Halltech, Roto-Fab, ADM, CAI, etc... |

OK. No harm in doing so. It is a generic tune and will net some gains. Really doesn't matter being before or after your cat back install.

I know a tune will add horsepower and all, but will a tune also make an ls3 shift better through the gears better.

It won't matter if you tune your car before or after you add a catback exhaust.
If you were adding more serious mods such as long tube headers and high flow cats and you were getting your car custom tuned, I'd say wait to save money. Because you'd want to get your car re-tuned after adding long tube headers. But with a custom tune, you don't have to pay full price when you get your car retuned. You may pay $300 - $500 for a custom tune the first time you get your car tuned. Then if you get more mods and need to get your car re-tuned, they usually only charge about $150 or so. |
