With a 7hp or 8hp difference, I would think that is going to be pretty hard to do a fair 1/4 mile comparison.

I would think the fact that the Hennessey is metal and probably heat soaks more than the LMR plastic "may" have a little to do with it. Don't quote me on that though.

Once you start digging in and doing real mods and getting actual tuning done, which CAI you have is more of an afterthought than anything.

People don't hear my car and ask what CAI I'm running

Correct... My baseline 1/4 is bone stock... next will be with exhaust and CAI. No way you can figure out which CAI is better on the track...

Should not have been any heat soak with the Hennessey runs was from a cold start. Also I wouldn't be too concerned with heat soak on the Hennessey CAI.... Moving air is not affected that much. I ran this CAI for 2 months and it worked great... no problem touching it while hot. Try doing that with New Era...

I think it is important to note that Mike's car was dyno'd twice with the first CAI. The pulls were nearly identical, with maybe 1 hp difference. The curves were right on top of each other. These cars dyno very consistently. Same thing with the second two pulls using the LMR CAI. The entire curve moved up, and it was also consistent.

I'm a huge skeptic when it comes to CAI tiddly-wink type mods, and I'm also a mechanical engineer too. I was convinced from the test after witnessing it, as were the rest of the crowd. Including the car owner

Quite a gap in results for essentially the same thing (free-flowing tube with a K&N filter in the same location).

But then again, the test was a bit flimsy on the scientific end of things.

Ideally, you would've done the Hennessey pulls, then let the car sit for a few hours before doing the LMR pull (as Mike's stated, his car had been sitting for 3 hours). This would help to balance the comparison for a more accurate test. Granted, time come into play as people were waiting to see the results.

The engineer in me wouldn't hand LMR the win with those numbers.

From experience, my own car runs better after its been driven and put through the paces vs. starting it up after its been sitting. Operating temperature and an evenly-distributed temp al a coolant flow is better than strapping it down and giving it hell after it has sat with the same hot coolant in the Texas heat for hours on end.

My bet is the HP/TQ difference is marginal under similar conditions for these two CAI's.

In the end, I'd go with the one that fits your tastes. Debating heavily over CAI's is only an issue for those who plan to keep it basic with bolt-ons (and when you're only doing that, why NOT go with what looks best to you?). We did two back to back pulls to get accurate results. As for the hood being closed, we have done dyno testing that proved a difference of less than 2hp, which is standing still on the dyno. If you have a CAI system on your car already and would like to bring it to our shop, I will make two back to back pulls with the system currently on your car and then install our CAI system and to prove ours is the best on the market today.

I was there and watched everything they did very closely. This are very legitimate results. They ran the car the same on all the runs and did everything the same with the computer. I would trust it, and like LMR has said take it to them they will prove it.

This reminds me of the early LS1 F-body days and when the lid mod was starting. In the beginning there were several styles and lots of different numbers but over time the best performing and I'll add best fitting stuck around and the others died out. These comparisons are good in finding out what works.

I won't give away the info they gave me yesterday when they installed mine but they tried several different things to come to the final parts.

Now I just wish I did the carbon fiber.

Give me a call at the shop and I can sell you just the CF tube. I will work you a deal considering you already purchased the complete unit from us.
