Here is what Car and Driver got w/ the sedan ..

Run the M3 through the six close-ratio manual gears, and the snarl becomes an Indian battle whoop as you approach the engine’s stratospheric 8400-rpm limit. Outperforming the last M3 coupe we tested by 0.2 second, the sedan galloped to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 12.6 seconds at 113 mph.

Stock for Stock, I don't think the SS will be able to hang .. however, I do believe mods will be cheaper ..

[QUOTE=shnomac77;191516]Im still trying to figure out why we are even comparing cars that are not even close to the same price bracket.........

Ergo: Option C. Now we're comparing apples to apples in terms of BMW vs CTS huh?

You know, I could believe an M3 Sedan take out a Pontiac G8 GXP, but I say the SS could come REAL close at nearly half the price. "best bang for the buck"

M3 sedan ANY day. No comparison IMO. Silly comparison. Compare the 135i to the Camaro SS. Not as much of a price difference. I am on a fence between a Camaro SS/RS manual and the BMW 135i manual in Alpine white with red Coral interior with grey poplar trim. I drove a 135i alone last week and it kicked ass BIG time. Best car I have EVER driven by FAR.

"quarter-mile in 12.6 seconds at 113 mph" for the M3

You dont need a-lot-o TQ to be fast .

But for less 1/2 the price of a M3 its going to be a h3ll of a ride

For the Old M3 E46
From Wiki on Nurburgring laps,

8:22 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS verified manufacturer time[citation needed]
8:22 Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 Motoharu Kurosawa Best Motoring Video Special DVD
8:22 BMW M3 E46 Horst von Saurma Sport Auto (12/2000)
8:22 BMW M Coupe E36/8 Horst von Saurma Sport Auto (10/1998)
8:24 Audi S5 Sport Auto (01/2008)

If the M3 E46 did it in 8:22, and the camaro in 8:20 then yeah, it will beat it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordsch...test_lap_times

For the new one? I do not think so....

I currently own the 135i .. I think stock for stock in the twistys it would win .. straights, the SS would win. I think you should go w/ the camaro SS because I believe that for the cost, you can get more power and excitement out of it ... if you have lots of money to burn .. you could get some good power out of the 135i, but currently the fuel system and small turbos are the limiting factors ..

My last car was a 2002 M3...I sold it before the bottom fell out on prices anticipating the E92 M3.

I was fully expecting to get a new E92 M3...then the 135 was announced and also made it onto the short list. When both cars were 'on the lot', I went and drove both back to back. 135 was clearly not *M class*.

The M3 is wicked...it's a very, very refined automobile and the fit and finish is phenomenal. The car is deceptively fast and ridiculously well balanced. You don't find the beauty of the car until you begin to rip through a series of corners...it's not just about getting around one corner...it's the ability to transition to the next.

So why didn't I buy it? It's pricey...and extremely close to P-car territory...and then I saw the 2010 Camaro. The value proposition on the Camaro is better.

Additionally...the M3 is pretty 'tweaked' from the factory. With my E46, I was extremely hesitant to make modifications as the *bang for the buck* factor was really skewed. The only real way to eek measurable HP out of the thing was to go FI.

The Camaro is cheap, the parts will be cheap, the labor will be cheap, etc., etc., etc. (cheap=relatively inexpensive)

The final judgment will be driving the Camaro...until then...a realistic comparison can not be made. Paper driving is not accurate...nor is it any fun.

There is no doubt that BMW make good quality cars. But really? Look at what you get for the money when you spend the same $$$ for another car.

Also, I hate to say it, BMW, Honda, Nissan, VW, etc etc are all making cars that just look the f@@king same. Its ridiculous. I wanna puke. There is zero imagination right now. They are all merging into one aerodynamic algorithm and eventually we will all be driving the samey looking cars. PUKE!!

If I had the money to spend on a BMW M3 I would NEVER buy one EVER!!

I would get something that made me stand out in the crowd Camaro SS and with the money I had left over I would buy a decent truck for winter!!!

It will be a close race on any track. We only have a few numbers to go on for the Camaro so we're going to have to wait and see
