Transmission vent hose came off

Took the SS for a cruise today and I heard what sounded like my exhaust was rattling but really loud. I pulled over to see if a bolt had fallen and I was dragging it or maybe I ran over something (not likely) it all looked good. Got back in the car and started it, revved the motor and sure enough big time rattling. Drove straight to the dealer who listened and said sounds like the catalytic converter was "falling apart".

So they took it back on a lift and come back about 20 mins later and said a hose on the top of the trans fell off and was resting on the exhaust causing the rattle. My question is how common is this? Anyone else heard of this problem? They fixed it with no issues.

Did they say what kind of hose?
I guess not one that carries fluid or it would have been a smelly mess.

If it fell on the exhaust, I would be concerned about the heat from the exhaust damaging the hose.

Auto or Man trans?

He said it waa just a vent hose that contracts and expands as it gets hot. They said its fixed good as new. Its a A6

I'm such a dope. Your title said that it was a vent hose.

Anyway, I don't see/hear much about these coming loose. So probably won't happen again.

But if interested, found this thread about Automatic Vent hose:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201848

And there is even a parts diagram web site that has great technical break down of the transmission:

It does not seem like it is a reoccurring/ongoing issue for these cars with automatics. Just mark it as a 'one off' experience.
