I call , what possible reason could GM have for doing this? Imagine what consumer reports would say if GM did do it. And since it is a new engine GM could have put in bigger bores if they needed the business end of the plug to be bigger.
I think this is a offshoot of the retarded urban rumor that if you break off the insulator (the white part) then you have to take the head off to get it out. This is also , I've done this to my own cars twice and the METAL nut that the socket grabs is still there. In closing: . |

my pickup has a similar configuration. its not hard to change plugs. (well, it is on my truck cus the injectors are mounted on the same point the coil is)

That little dooger's down in there pretty good though eh? At least it's in the center of the CC. Doesn't look there's much room for it anywhere else...

What possible benefit could there be in using your "two piece" spark plugs? Have you ever seen such a goofy device? Even Citron and Renault are not dumb enough to do this. |

... you may be thinking of something similar to the problems with changing plugs on the Ford 4.6 ... they are made in such a way as to allow the lower part of the plug... which contains a good deal of the insulator... to break off. There is a special tool that can be used if the just the metal insulator shield is what is left in the head... if it is the insulator shield and part of the ceramic insulator, you have no choice but to pull the head.
The cut-away of the 3.6, shown above, doesn't look like this motor will have that sort of problem... |

The 4.6 also requires a special tool to remove the coil pack before you can get to the spark plug. I understand the book calls for 4 hours to change plugs in the 4.6 GT the first time. Some people may have problems, though, as there are apparently a number of them that strip the threads out of the head to get the plugs out. I truly hope GM does not require a special tool to remove the coil packs or plugs. I think the guy that invented the 2 piece, battery-operated wet mop works for ford... please let him stay at ford
