If you want to save the tires for summer, then by all means get some AS tires. If you're scared to drive on them just because it's cold outside, get over it. Yes they stick better in hotter temps but they will do just fine in cold weather too. Just stay out of the ice and snow with them.

I've had not problem in the mid 20s, just keep your foot out of it a little when it's really cold out, that simple...it'll be warm again and you can have fun later

I agree. I've been riding in Co with temps lower than 35 and have had no issues. I have studded snow tires that go on when there's snow...like right now. I also don't drive as aggressive as I would once the weathers warms up. I've been starting out in 2nd and then shifting to 4th. It has gotten up to 19 mpgs and no slipping /sliding.

The temperature alone may not cause the tires performance to drop, but add in snow and ice and you will have a mess. You definitely want to drive conservatively and properly let them warm up, or you will be slipping. Still would recommend an all season or winter tire set.

I'm gonna post a review of the only all seasons available in stock size in a few min...

But with regard to using Summers in the cold. Yes they do work fine, your car is not going to just lose control. However their limit of adhesion is far lower in cold tempratures because they cannot warm up at all. What does that mean to you? If you have to make an evasive maneuver you will have significantly less roadholding ability than a good all season set of tires. The problem is after driving them in the summer you will be used to a certain level and that level will be long gone. Add wet weather to the mix (just rain, not even snow) and while I'm sure you can get around, the tires are QUITE dangerous.

Some summers are worse than others, on my vette if it was 30 degrees the Kumho Ecsta summers I had would barely let me get down the street without sliding. The Pirellis are far more expensive and better tires, so they aren't as bad, but I bought a set of all seasons because its not worth the risk of losing control when I need it.

I've had no issues here in "Southern" CA. Same temps, tons of rain yesterday, windy & cold. I actually tried breaking them loose on takeoff and on curves. Not that hard to do, but the traction control really kicks in and works great! I won't be switching tires until these wear out. I see no reason to switch good tires unless you're driving a bit crazy. Now, I won't be going to play in the snow this weekend in the local mountains with The Beast - that will be my gf's 4x4 Just drive smart! It's only that cold in the early mornings and late nights...

Just my experiences...

My concern is regarding damage to the tires from driving in cold weather. Yesterday was the first time I had driven in weather below 40, and although I noticed I was driving on pebbles for 15 or so minutes until the tires warmed up the traction was acceptable. However, will the softer compound suffer from being driven in the cold temps?
