Headers question - Borla, ARH, LG Motorsports

Hi,

The only mod I made to my SGM SS is the Borla ATAK (at least in terms of this forum category). It's been a year since that mod and I have the itch again .

I've started some research on long tube headers but was looking for some opinions on the following questions:

1. Borla Headers - although Borla seems popular for exhaust, they don't seem very popular for headers - I'm curious as to why?

2. American Racing Headers - seems to be one of the more popular brands on Camaro5 but I'm not sure if they are available in CA? ARH has in bold red that there are California restrictions so wasn't sure if they don't sell in CA or not - I know one shop I went too does not carry them for some reason.

Thanks, Walter ...

First thing I wanted to point out is that putting some long tube headers with the Atak is going to be obnoxiously loud. Some that have done this realize they hate it and go to a different setup. Just FYI.

As far as popular LTH here on Camaro5 there are American Racing Headers, Kooks, and Stainless Works.

I don't know the emission codes in CA so I can't help you there. Good luck.

This sounds awesome - especially given that I find the ATAK is not loud enough

Is it obnosiously loud on idle or if you're on high RPMs?

I never went this route so I cant say. But from what I hear, most people that do go this route will end up changing to a Borla S Type or Borla Touring.

These are "The Big Three" in long tube headers term. They are all top quality performers. The restriction listed on the ARH description is not just an ARH thing. It is a California regulatory thing that is true for any brand of headers. Any modification to emissions control systems is a no go. If you have any other questions feel free to hit me up or give us a call.

If you want to stay California legal you have the two options below. Long Tubes are nice but if you have to stay 50 State Legal they are not the right part.

JBA 1 3/4" 50 State legal Shorty Headers

ARH 1 3/4" 50 State legal Shorty Headers

Great products but they are NOT legal in California or 50 State legal.

Yeaaaaaa long tubes in Cali is not a good combo. I'm rolling the dice I leave here in a few months so ill never have to smog it. But If you live here and plan to stay here, you will not pass the visual smog check. With high flow cats you'll pass the actual sniff check part. So it's either hope they're incompetent ooooooor throw the guy 100 bucks.

I'll definitely PM you or give you a call later. Depending on my timing (since your time-zone is ahead of me) it may happen next week .

LG's for sure out of those listed. Their headers are designed from their racing experience.

SW and Dynatech are also good choices.

Sounds good. Even if it is outside normal business hours it never hurts to try to call. If someone is around we will answer.
