Suggestions when purchasing/ordering
Hi all,
Been a viewer of this site for a long time and have appreciated the information; as well as the sometimes spirited conversations . I'm getting closer to ordering my 2SS and would like to know any suggestions people have when dealing with the dealer or making sure I get what we agree to. I made a list of 26 dealers around me and spent a good chunk of time calling around. Must have hit about 15 of them. One out there is offering free car washes for the life of the car (which could be a decade or more for me), 2 free tanks of gas, and 2 free oil changes. I'm thinking this needs to be in writting somewhere. What lessons have members learned? I'm leaning towards a 2SS/RS CGM w/ black stripes. Thanks. |

Make sure they have open allocation - any dealer can place your order, but it might not get accepted by GM for production for a long time if they do not have an allocation for you. So you would want to ask how many allocations they have for the current production cycle, and how many folks have ordered in front of you who are at EVENT CODE 1100. Usually larger dealers receive more allocations but they also have more orders pending-- whole process is changing I think in the next month or so. A dealer on this site might have better answers. Once you decide to place an order, make sure you get a copy of your WORKBENCH order which will have a 6 digit number starting with "N". This is the only way you know your order has been placed. Then you can track it to production with The Viz or your dealer. Good luck and enjoy the ride!!
PS find a dealer selling at MSRP or below!!

If eligible for GM Supplier Discount https://www.gmsupplierdiscount.com/ip-gmsupplier/ OR GM Credit Union Member discount https://www.exclusivegmoffer.com/ip-...do?program=cud see if Dealer is honoring those programs. Most Dealers did not honor these programs at launch - they may be loosening up a bit now. Ask first before going through the trouble of registering. Once you confirm they'll honor, register and you can build your Camaro at the GM Supplier/Credit Union website to see what your trim + options would be and applicable discount. IF GM Supplier discount was honored back in May it would've given me a $990 discount off the MSRP of my 2LT RS Auto SIM. As I had The GM Card I used those earnings (you cannot use both discounts and earnings anymore) at the time...
Don't order any constrained options eg Painted Engine Cover as they will hold up your order - ask the Dealer if any of your options are on constraint. Good luck ordering !

Once you establish that they have an allocation for YOUR ORDER, make sure they will sell at msrp with NO add ons. Get that in writing and signed by at least the sales or inventory manager.

Thanks for the advice on pricing. That's actually why was calling so many dealers. I quality for the college discount, USAA discount, and have some change on my GM card. I made a spreadsheet of which dealers would honor the discounts and which ones wouldn't. |

All of the above suggestions are gold!!! When you have decided on a dealership, search the forums for any other members that have dealt with or have any previous experiences with that dealership. Of course, allocation is king (until it changes) and getting the things you want in writing such as price is very important.

For what it's worth....I've found these two questions to be very important when talking to a dealer. They can still lie but these questions pin them down to answering specific questions....
Will you order AND deliver a 2010 Camaro at MSRP or below, GMS or Supplier pricing? (Get a "yes" or "no" answer) Do you have open allocations and if I place an order will an allocation be dedicated to my order now? Get a "yes" or "no" answer. Ask for a copy of the Preliminary Order Detail....OrderWorkbench...and ask again...Did you assign an allocation to this order? Get a "yes" or "no" answer. Asking these questions "may" avoid you being lost in status code 1100 limbo. If you have already ordered and you have been at status code 1100 for more than a week or so....I would call your dealer and directly ask if an allocation was assigned to your order. GM is offering GMS for employees but dealers are not obligated to sell at GMS or Supplier pricing. |

Some people sell at MSRP, HONOR DISCOUNTS, and throw in a few "Extra" items that other dealers just don't have access to.
Some even pick you up at the train station in Milwaukee if you come up from Illinois You can ask all those questions posted above, or you could just work with a proven dealer that takes car of his customers |

Camaro Scotty....You are absolutely right!!! There shouldn't be a need for any of those questions. But a lot of us are finding out that they are very important questions to ask. If you are thinking of moving....East Tennessee is a really nice place to park your Camaro and an even better place to drive it. Thanks for all the help and info you have provided to all of us!! |
