What is a "mirror tilt module" - like does it tilt the rearview mirrors down when you back up?

When you put the car into reverse gear it will tilt both mirrors down (or just one if only single control module). It can be fully adjusted to how far down and how much of a delay before it return to normal position after taking back out of reverse gear.
