Good evening all,

It's starting to get a bit warmer where I'm at and I'm quite excited to pull my 2010 SS Camaro out from storage. With that, I'm also looking forward to getting under the hood and doing some upgrades.

One of the things I'd like to replace, and admittedly I know very little about it, are the struts and springs. I've replaced shocks in my Silverado before with extreme ease, but never struts/springs. I'm more than confident that I can do the work, I just want to make sure I am buying the right parts.

I've been looking up replacement parts online through Advanced Auto Parts, Amazon, Camaro5 and a few other sites, but I'm still not quite sure what to replace the complete set of stock/struts with or what all I need to replace. I've been told I should only need to replace the springs and I've been told by others its best to replace the whole strut/shock and the springs- I'm just interested in giving the car back its old "fresh off the lot feel" again without paying the near $1200 the dealers/garages want for parts and labor.

Again, forgive my ignorance, I just won't want to purchase the wrong part and then sit on a few hundred dollars of stuff that I can't/won't actually use.

I'm not interested in lowering the car a whole lot, perhaps an inch or two, but not much beyond that.

I'm not sure what all other information I need to give, but I would greatly appreciate any and all advice I could get.

Well, an inexpensive route might be to get stock shock/strut for 2013+ SS. I have heard they are better units. Supposedly better damping. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

The springs are super easy to replace and install. We did mine in about 2 - 2 1/2 hours, and you won't need any spring compressor.

The springs don't really wear out, it's the shocks and struts that need to be replaced. Either just go OEM, or if you are looking for an upgrade, the 1LE struts and shocks are a good way to go and not too much more

The 1LE struts will give a stiffer ride though,

If you upgrade to the 2013 and new struts (whether SS replacements or 1LE) you will do something about the end links using different diameter studs.

If you do decide to lower the car, lowering it with springs can be more stiff than some like, so coilovers might be a good option at that point. They cost a bit more, but the installation isn't much harder, and you gain adjustability.

Installing Lowering springs doesn't require a strut compressor, but if you are putting stock springs back on it might be a good idea to have one handy, as they have a taller free height and can be difficult to get pushed down enough to start the nut for the strut mounts.

I have 2010 SS.
I just had the springs replaced with BMR 1.25" drop springs. The ride is fantastic!
And the responsiveness is amazing.

You do not need to replace the whole setup, you can do just the springs, however, a lot of the labor is redundant, so doing it all at once is cheaper than springs, and later shocks and struts.
Also, you will most likely need an alignment.
Do not forget to have the bushings timed.

Check around, most places wanted $400+ for the install,
but I found one that did it for 200

Yeah, I intend on doing the work at a friend's shop, so labor will cost me, at most, a 24 pack... I'm just thinking of replacing the struts along with the springs so I don't have to go back under later.

I started this thread after i cleaned my car. I have the 1.25" BMR springs as well. Should give you an idea.
