Some interesting info about LS3 testing

Did a car show with my RJT 2SS/RS over the weekend in St.Catharines,Ontario, the home of the LS3,had several plant employees coming up to me to discuss the engine, one guy in particular talked about the tests that they put the LS3 thru! he said it' s the only GM engine qualified for aircraft use,by this he said they take a LS3 and run it on the test stand for 24 hours at 10,000 RPM. Amazing!!!! I asked him about the fact that Mobil 1 is mentioned in the owner's manual and he answered synthetic oil is used exclusively but he didn't say if it was strictly Mobil1.

Sounds like an exaggeration to me.

10K?

I don't believe that.

I recommend the OP for this duty, seeing that this is his source.

Member 3whiterag would know the truth. He's worked at that plant for over 20 years. Anyone who knows Tom knows he is a no bullshit kind of guy. All the neat Corvette stuff is R&D'd overthere before going to prod. The 3.6 is also being built there.

Is this before or after they put in the aluminum connecting rods and shaft-mounted rockers?

I am only joking with you, but 10K is a HARD RPM to reach on ANY LSx motor. (And I mean hard to reach, not impossible)

No...I remember Scott mentioning something like this too. Don't remember the RPM's...but basically the same deal. I'll shoot a message over to Tom.

Heard the same sort of thing about the LS1 from fbodfather at the gathering in Atlanta one year. He said they run it without coolant for some sort of specified time when they are testing it. He said it is designed to go something like 100 miles without a drop of coolant. Been a few years since this late night chat took place over a few enjoyable drinks so I can't remember specifics.
