Help With Drop spring - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Ok fellas been doing some research on drop springs. The Pfadts springs drop 1" and the H&R's drop 1.5". I need to drop about 2" for now until I get my coilover. I read that the Pfadts springs require you to cut 1" off of the bump stop but the H&R's don't require that. So can I cut the bump stop with the H&R's which should give me a lower stance.

Cutting the bumpstops will not lower the stance.....it just helps to prevent bottoming out when you run out of travel.You need a coilover setup.

I would just wait and do it one time. Why spend the money or take the time to do it twice....and multiple alignments too. Mine is lowered 1" and its quite noticeable.A 2" drop is pretty low IMO.

With almost all lowering springs you will want to trim the bump stops to not have the car ride on them after lowering the car.

This was mentioned by another vendor here who was posting under an Eibach 1" spring thread. I have the Eibach 1" drop springs installed and have never had any issues w/bottoming out......large dips in roads,wash board dirt roads,you name it. I have never heard any other members who used 1" springs complaining of problems either?? Can you give any first hand experience with any problems w/Eibach 1" drop springs or any other 1" drop spring for that matter?

I assume your using the Eibach pro kit, and if so I have them on my Audi A4 same spring, different car. I do not have any issues either with riding on the bump stops, but I trimmed them, as its common practice for installing lowering springs.

The issue is most lowering springs will cause a factory strut to travel further then before and with out trimming some manufacturers bump stops you will have a tendency to hit them to often, not in every case, as you exemplified. So in order to help eleviate this issue you trim the stop an 1" or so and add a little more travel to the shock for a less *bumpy ride, pun intended

Seddon, Dropping the car too far (about 1.5" +) you'll notice your Camaro's factory dampers no longer work properly, resulting in a bouncy ride. If you want to go 2" i'd suggest upgrading some more stuff. Shoot between 1" - 1.5" drop with the rest of your suspension being stock.

Best bet is just to wait until your coilovers arrive.

I have the Eibach 1" springs and did NOT have the bumpstops trimmed. I talked several times w/the tech guys at Eibach and they said that the bumpstops do NOT need trimmed w/their 1" springs.So far, i have had no problems w/bottoming out or bouncing. A couple of vendors on this site claim that they should be trimmed and maybe thev are correct if you plan on goin airborn and jumping canals Dukes of Hazzard style

Call Eibach(as i did) and ask them as they designed and tested the springs!

Thanks for all the advice/insight fellas. I need to lower the my car for my new wheels so I am just gonna stick with the H&R's for now.

Coilovers will be ordered late summer so that's why I will do it twice plus the springs were an early christmas present.

seddon PM me if you want to check my car out. I didnt cut bumpstops and it drives great. I have H/r springs from Germany and a slight revalve of the OEM shocks. Car has no fender gaps it sits perfect. I have KW coilovers sitting in the garage and still deliberate if I will install them now.

How much drop are you at, 1.5"? I'm waiting to install my Pedders XA's, they been sitting in my garage for months now. I'm waiting to get new wheels in Jan.
