Factory Remote Start Install

I want to put the Factory Remote start on my SS....but I was quoted $500 - $600 from my dealership with install, I slightly blacked out after the $500 lol.

Anyways, is this something I can install and program myself, or is the dealership pretty much the way to go?
What if I picked the parts up myself online, think it would be cheaper? Can I buy used keys, and have the cut key switched with one another?

Thank you.

Autos already have the module (it's hid under the dash so you have to take the dash apart to get it) so you don't have to pay for that BUT you do need to relocate the module (it will work under the dash but the range is very limited), need to buy the wire harness to connect the module to the BCM, reprogram the BCM to accept the module and work, and need to buy a new fob.

If you buy and do everything that you can at home, you'll still spend about $400 for harness, new fob, and reprogramming. I would rather pay the extra $100-$200 to have the dealership do the couple hours labor and take the dash apart so that way it they mess up the dash they have to pay for it.

Not being able to get a remote start with my 1SS still bugs me. Honestly, these engines heat up so quickly I really don't need it. The max run time is only 10 mins anyway. I can live with out it.

That is pretty expensive, I got mine installed at the dealer for $155 (harness & case) + $35 (key fob).

I just asked them if they did price matching and they matched the price listed at my closest dealer as indicated on this website:

Thanks for the link! I see you're in Houston. Which dealer did you take it to?

I took it to Classic Chevy in Sugarland. I told them that Allen Samuel quoted me $154.30 (as indicated on the website) and they matched it. I was the first to do it at the dealership though so they ordered the parts and didn't realize that it didn't come with the key fob so I had to pay an additional $35.00 afterward.

Thanks for the link, I just had it installed in my LS, 170 + key fob. Not too bad.

Did that include the programing? Your total was under $200?

Yes, that included programming. $154 + $35 + taxes was the total price.
